Any news?
Sounds shit.
Just make sure he's not 'straightening' the chassis in preparation of obtaining an Engineers report (from a mate no doubt) confiming the vehicle was always OK and retuning it to you.
Bump. How's it going OP?
Interesting especially as I'm not far from Carlisle. Good luck to the OP.
Still in a world of hurt, never managed to get to see him today due having to work. Visiting on Monday. Just going to do the Hilton Bard thing if I don't have any success on Monday morning. I will be naming and shaming in a big social media way after. If anyone is buying a defender contact me directly and I will make sure you don't fall into his hands.
This isn't looking/sounding good...
Agreed.
Any news OP?
OP has been bought off in return for internet silence.*
*Maybe
Finally got a response via text after hassling him via facebook, twitter & instagram saying he will pay us back when he sells another Defender.
What happened to the money you gave him? Did that refund the last mug to fall off the street?
If he has other cars, why can you not have one of them? A better one.
No money and no car and you're not banging his door down? You are mad.
Scotch the issue is possibly all the trader's other stock has wholesale finance on. So if the OP got "given" another vehicle he potentially wouldn't have clean title (ownership) and end up just as stuffed.
OP have you checked his accounts/ companies house filings (if a limited company) try www.beta.companieshouse.gov.UK and checked the London/ Edinburgh Gazette www.gazettes-online.co.UK against the company name for any insolvency proceedings?
If he's not a limited you can check the individual insolvency register
These will tell you if he's gone "bust" recently (from what you've described so far I suspect not but do check before launching on court proceedings)
Last bump, but anything?
Any news on this, hope the OP gets a result.
Maybe he sleeps with the fishes now?
Maybe he sleeps with the fishes now?
Aquatic prostitution is never the answer.
In case you get battered?
Aquatic stuff was never my bag. We are getting half this this weekend and the remain balance next week apparently....
Payed the chap a vist with the wife and kids. Nothing like letting a 6 & 9 year old play in somebody's stock. No swearing no threats just put my point across about theft and stuff + Enjoyed my 9 year old telling him to give us the money (very politely) Got an agreement to pay back it will be another vist if not, Suggesting that my wife goes down with a car load of her mates as he wont know how to deal with a pack of wailing wolfs. Will keep you all updated as it unfolds.

Genius!!! 😀
Good work Wool, just don't believe anything you're told EVER!
Keep on it 100% until you've got your money.
Got an agreement to pay back it will be another vist if not
TBH honest that first visit didn't sound too threatening and I suspect he's just saying stuff to get you out.
This has been going on nearly a month now which means any staff he's got will need paying again and guess who's not at the top of the list?
We are getting half this this weekend
It's Friday today .... why didn't he pay you today?
He's taking the piss, sorry 🙁
Wool please sort this out.
You just seem too nice and trusting about it and I hope you prove everybody wrong but I'd want my money and wouldn't accept anything else..
Just don't get done over for being too nice..
If you paid on a bank card, just talk to your bank (doesn't have to be a credit card) they will get the money back for you!
http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/visa-mastercard-chargeback
Toger6791 - spot on. Wool, please get it sorted. I've been too nice and trusting, and lost thousands because of it. 🙁
So, Wool - did you get your first installment?
I am going to go with dealer, like most of his vehicles, stalled again.
❓
Come on wool, did he stick to his word?
We need to know man!
Still wrangling he is talking now, just useless no cash flow says he will pay us back when he sell one and it's slow at the moment. Solicitors now pursuing it so the ball is in his court mind we can just lose the whole lot if he folds the business before the court catches him up. I have written the cash off now and it's going to take more than a few years to get back on an even keel. Not happy is an understatement.
Only you know the ins and outs of this
If you are written it off can you not gave another one to get something back?
The only thing he has is a bent silver td5 and a ex milatary 130 ambulance and another customers 110 that's in for a rebuild and my money thats payed the rent etc etc.......
Whats the bent silver Td5? Take that?
Not that hard to un-bend
I've been following this and I can't believe how it's turned out. I really feel for you. Isn't there any way to prove a criminal case and get him in front of the rozzers? Have you named and shamed him yet? Can you get back the original defender and some cash maybe?
Sorry to hear that, Wool. Shit situation and no mistake.
Worth getting the original back and at least getting some cash breaking it/selling it on?
So my only thinking is. Get the the TD5 at a trade price and as part payment. Even bent it has value
Make sure that you are paying trade price less £3.5k for a chassis swap
He owes you the balance still, get this in writing
Damage limitation at best
You have my sympathy, I once bought a clocked car, when I worked out what I'd done I felt sick to the core and cheated.

FTFY.
Wool, if you are working with Hilton Baird, there is a way of placing a legal claim against any property he owns and when it's sold, you are effectively a creditor, even if it's years later...
This was my last option but the bailiffs extracted the cash before this last step.
Don't give up on your cash, keep at it.
Wool , have you suggested he sells a couple of his stock vehicles to the trade/ auction instead of waiting for a retail sale ?
Solicitors now pursuing it so the ball is in his court mind we can just lose the whole lot if he folds the business before the court catches him up.
Wool, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but TBH the solicitors are just going to cost you more money - you could achieve the same as them by going through the small claims court.
Even if/when the court says that he owes you the money, you still have to try and get it which will be very difficult. There will be other people (such as the bank, HMRC and VAT) that he owes money to who will be way ahead of you in the queue. The easy option for him is to declare bankruptcy and you will then get absolutely zilch.
Do you really think he's going to give you the money if he sells another car? - I don't.
As has already been said - your best bet is to try and grab some stock as a part payment, at least it's something.
This thread has made me sad, mainly because you've simply been too nice [and not taken the advice given].
Yup been done up like a kipper, thanks to Mr (John) Ryan Stott of Bespoke Defenders LTD Bacup / Rossendale now trading as Land Rover Restoration LTD on the Sidings Industrial Estate.
Its your money don't lose it like i did.
So are you without cash or vehicle?
I know your claim is stronger if the vehicle is with him, but if it's looking so bleak you've written off the cash, at least collect the vehicle?
You started this thread just after I spent a similar sum on a van sold privately, in cash so even less protection, thankfully it turned out OK after some electrical gremlins were sorted under warranty.
Can you not take the original one back now? Better than nothing and leaves you to persue the claim too (I'd assume).
What an absolute shit of a man.
So sorry to hear about this Wool. I wish I had some good advice or the money to cover this for you and hope the wife's not too distraught. Fingers crossed you manage to get back to a better financial footing sooner than you've estimated.
I keep saying, go back to your bank and get a chargeback done on the money!
They will just return your money, whether it drives him into the red or not.
Go and bloody do it!
He'll wrap the business up, looks like he's only been going 5 minutes.
Have you spoken to your bank?
What's the value of the td5 to what he owes you?
Holy Crap..
Feel sorry for you 😐
Is it this guy?
https://twitter.com/bespokedefender
He's not tweeted since Jan and has no website?
I did ask if he was in Rossendale.
You need some mates with irish plate.
Prick deserves everything coming to him for this ! You wont be the first
Wool, I have been searching for information on this firm and individual. He's had me to. Proper rogue! Can you private message me....
Very sorry to learn of your experience OP. Whilst I'm generally a pacifist, with that amount of money involved and a genuine reluctance from the dealer to even consider returning your money, I would be rounding up a few of my larger framed and not-so-ethical acquaintances and a box.
The box contains baseball bats and a hessian sack and gaffer tape. However, the bats are only to be used to imply. The dealer would be encouraged to don the sack over his head before his wrists are taped and then taken for a long drive. The implication of imminent serious physical harm is a very effective method for ensuring the desired outcome.
Often scaring the sh1t out of someone who deserves it becomes a useful resource.
Anon.
£12,500 down with no option to borrow anymore. Not in good place atm
Presume this is the bloke. Still posting pics of a fancy LR only a couple of days ago.
Business listed as trotters traders on his facebook???
pedromichael You don't seam to have an email in your profile
Yup that's him on facebook
he favorite quote is interesting.

Wool
The earlier company Bespoke Defenders Ltd is still technically speaking live at companies house, also there are some differences in addresses for the new company albeit one could be residential.
Have you had notice of an insolvency process? If so what's in it?
No notice of insolvency as far as i am aware
grab your TD5 back and buy a galv chassis from Marsland/Richards. Forum group effort can have it swapped in a weekend.
Good call RNP!
Tried that,my TD5 is in bits. in his workshop
EDIT
That's crap. When it's back together are you having it?
Not sure what to do he has all the docs, been had with the bounced and then the stopped check.
Grab the 130ambi then. Pulse 130's are worth decent money (check Foley SV).
This guys having a laugh.
Needs his knees broken.
Jesus, I've been keeping tabs on this thread since it started and it gets worse.
can't imagine how you're feeling to be honest. If he cancelled the cheque but has the TD5 then surley that's theft and the police can get involved.
Sounds like it's not the first time he's done it.
I once got done with an older discovery, cost about 3k so nothing like you paid. Once we'd picked it up driven it we found it would randomly briefly cut out, and the steering was so vague it was dangerous.
We took it back the following day saying it was too big for my wife to drive and managed to get something else, by which time this other car had increased in value by 1k from the day before, we made the mistake of phoning first.
Actually turned outto be a good car, although it was treated like crap for over 2 years. Hope your situation gets better soon.
Yes surely if you own the car (in bits or not the insolvency should not matter as he has your property at his premises to fix) as has been said get car and chase the rest of the cash later.
Wool, If your TD5 is in bits, could you not get a van and get said bits and swap the chassis over. If its in bits sounds like 1/2 the job is done?
If some little shit had £12.5k of my money with the chance of losing the lot if he goes under, I'd rustle up some mates, screwdriver the locks out of whatever he has sat in his yard and taking it as collateral.
If you can get into the yard, it took some negotiation just to get him to stop talking to me trough the massive steel gates he has on the Sidings Industrial Estate.
This whole thread fills me with rage. How the hell can somebody get away with this???!!!!
Knowing how much effort and sweat £12.5k is for me to earn, I'd either be upto my eyeballs legally or I'd be down there with a Stihl saw cutting the gates/locks off. Certainly wouldnt be a month down the road without either money, LR or a plan in place.
Sorry but going in with your kids makes you a soft touch in his eyes hence why he's still mugging you off.
As much as I love LR's and I restore them myself (but not commercially) I hate the crime wave that follows them and that I alluded to in the other 'I bought a defender thread'.
There are two places that I would recommend someone buy a LR from (not from anyone in the rossendale valley), but with either I would still insist on going with the buyer to check every nut and bolt over.
Ryan Stott has some neck, My understanding is that I am not the only one he has defrauded over at Bespoke Defenders & Land Rover Restorations the Sidings Bacup.

Wool. With the greatest respect, this guy won't give a shit if you keep bad mouthing him online. As RNP says, you need to get a firm plan in place which doesn't include slights on an Internet forum. Police would be my first port of call tomorrow morning.
Well I am resigned to to the fact that the cash has gone as has the Defender. So I am determined to make sure he can't con anyone else. I will call the police again in the morning but it got me absolutely nowhere last time,
I am not slighting him just stating the truth.
Wool, get talking to your bank and get a chargeback done it has to be done within 120 days, you can get your money back!
chargeback?? we did a bank transfer to pay, thought it was lost??
"Thought"
Even if there was a slight hint of a chance id be down the bank speaking to them !
