I rang Vodafone on the 6th of August to enquire when I could either upgrade with them or move elsewhere. I knew my contract didn't end until late October, but also knew they let you upgrade early so thought I'd see what they could offer.

The lad I spoke to told me that I could do so from the 10th of August, and that they allowed people to either upgrade or leave their contract up to x days early. I asked if this meant that after August 10th I could leave Vodafone without penalty, and he said it did. So on the 10th of August I phoned them and got my PAC code, and they told me that counted as day 1 of the 30 days notice to leave. Nothing was said about any early termination fee, but having been told that there wouldn't be one from 10th August I didn't expect it to be mentioned.

Then today I get an invoice for £68 for an early termination fee, which is three months worth. I've no objection to paying up until 10th September because that's 30 days after I gave notice, but it seems a bit wrong to charge me for another two months after they told me I could leave without penalty. I would have just waited until October to move if I hadn't been categorically told I could do so immediately without penalty.

The bloke today took about 15 minutes to grasp what I was telling him, and has referred it or whatever they do to have the call listed to. I'm imaging they will in due course tell me they've checked it and I'm wrong.

Anyone had any joy with them in this sort of situation?

Why not just avoid paying and see what happens?

I assume they'll just add it to my DD (wife and daughter's phones are also on Vodafone and have a while to go so I can't cancel the DD).

Scumbags! I had a protracted battle for a similar thing, be sure to ask for recording of the call to be sent to you, they only keep them for 60 days.
Keep at them, persistence got me a decent portion of money back then switched to Giffgaff, highly recommend them after a year or so.

Cheers. I've to wait 5-7 days for them to check the call.

Literally THE worst mobile network provider.

They also have a cheek to charge users to speak to cs.
The owner of Vodabone is sitting pretty in one of his manors in Devon more than likely getting fat of your loss.

I would honestly do yourself a favour and go to trading standards or ombudsman then switch straight to three, if you have a three coverage in your area that is.

Constant running battle with Vodafone for the last year, however I am just waiting for my court date. Yes it has gone that far.

Simply the worst customer service and a complete catalogue of lies from every department.

On the same subject, does anyone know of a setup anything like giffgaff that uses voda's network (by a strange parrallel-universe event, it's the only one I can access at home) ?

I'd like prepaid rather than "apparently cheap"

I'm about to switch to their new superfast broadband. Will I die?

Yes.

I kept with Demon for 20 years through several changes of ownership, but 6 months after they were taken over by Vodaphone I took the hint and left.
