eerrrrm, that is one thing, but it's not what the Transparency of Lobbying Bill (aka the gagging law) is actually about.

But yes, effectively it has gone through as of two evenings ago. But no the 'gagging law' wouldn't have made a difference either way to the guardian's Snowden laptops.

Three Guardian staff members – Johnson, executive director Sheila Fitzsimons and computer expert David Blishen – carried out the demolition of the Guardian's hard drives. It was hot, sweaty work. On the instructions of GCHQ, the trio bought angle-grinders, dremels – a drill with a revolving bit – and masks.

Sounds like the Guardian hard drives are the same ones I used back in the 70's.

its entirely sensible that charities and others should not be able to exert undue political pressure in the runup to an election - in just the same way that TV companies have to portrey balance, and political parties have restrictions on how much they can spend.

As for the guardian and their illegal distribution of state secrets across international borders, well, thats been illegal for a long time, and if you'd seen Rusbridger giving evidence to the parliamentary committee where he admitted knowingly breaking the law, well, lets wait and see how that all plays out...

How do political parties fund their election campaigns?

A little late in the day, Shirley? This was in the news weeks, if not months ago.
And if the Grauniad had an ounce of sense, all those drives would be backed-up off site.
Multiple times.
And as those particular files are txt documents, and don't take up huge amounts of space, they'd be copied onto flash drives and/or SD cards; a 64Gb card holds lots of data...

The scary part was in the first link -

one of 850,000 Americans with access to top secret UK information
, ie. what we considered top secret was actually available to a shocking number of people. Amazing really as I thought that level of openness was closed down after Bradley (Chelsea) Manning

Very slightly OT, but a government who can get away with this, can get away, unchallenged, with anything.

I'm entirely unsuited to become the new Kasae, but it's obvious something was afoot there. Even with very minimal Google skills. He predicted his death in the woods, it happened a few days later. Once you understand his political history, you'll see why it had to happen.

Off to my tin foil bed. See you in the nuclear winter with your zombie survival pack.
