Hi

I'm a Geography teacher and would really appreciate your help if you live in the UK.

Please go outside and measure the depth of the snow at your house in cm.

Open this spreadsheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Agsl0Wd0Ys37dDhhRXZyY1gwbUwwVVEzdDBkTVljZ3c

Fill in the first bit of your postcode as shown, then the snow depth at your house in cm. It will automatically fill in the lat/long column.

It saves automatically, so you can then just close it.

I am going to use the data to make a pretty map!

Thanks for your help,

GB

I'm just trying to figure out the best way of displaying this data - Excel used to be able to do maps but only on pre-2002 versions. I have played with GE graph before and so may try that.

I'll keep you posted....

Might do the job if you're a quick learner/remember how to use GIS?

I've been playing on Google Fusion, which until 30mins ago I didn't even realise existed...

Here is the first go (Red = lots of snow, green = no snow):

You should be able to post a live URL to that (I Think)

Google Fusion? That's far to easy. Convert lat/long to os grid, plot as x,y graph, overlay map of GB. Much better. You kids have it far too easy.

So all the soft Scots and Welsh have been spared then ?

Just as well us tough South-Easterns can take it.

I tried that on Excel but this just seemed better?

If anyone knows how to make my Fusion table auto-update from the spreadsheet everyone is typing into I'd be very grateful...

OK - I've had a hunt around and the Fusion Table won't update itself from the Google Spreadsheet. It's a feature that's been requested a few times though, so maybe in the future. I can just delete all data and reimport every now and again.

Your map pretty much reflects the predicted forecast/snow warning :

you do have to smile at a severe weather warning for 7-12cm of snow

luckily the Southampton area was spared this armageddon scenario
