Driving up to Grasmere early Fri AM...worried I might not even get there if the roads might be snow-clad 😕
Leaving the bikes and doing a stop of fell stomping...or maybe skiing!
Also, are there any decent pubs in Grasmere other than the Travellers Rest?- heard the ridiculously named 'Tweedies' is worth a shout...
You will be fine. There is no snow on the ground at the moment to speak of (well, perhaps a tiny bit).
Pubs - there are a few in Grasmere if memory serves me right, but I was a little squiffy last time (several years ago) I was drinking there! Tweedies is good though, I remember that much!
Nothing lower down so the roads will be fine. It's going to be fairly snowy/icy on the high fells though I reckon so crampons/ice axe might be in order.
Oops...don't have either Grum.
I've got by without them before and will try and avoid doing anything too extreme.
I think Helvellyn by the edges is a definite non-starter though!
Up at Ulpha fell for the weekend. Is it worth taking the bike?
I've just looked at the Met Office mountain forecast for the lakes:

Worth looking at the ground conditions.
Mind how you go.
They're on about day five or six of the Lake's Ski Season, a report on Winterhighland for today had about 50people up there.
Lake District Ski Club Web Site has the relevent upto date info on opening, cost, location / long walk in and safety.
For Pennine ski fans - season has started, one day, and it wasnt up to much. Everybody is waiting to see what drops over the next two days.
Drop by the Climber's Shop in Ambleside and pick up some of these - http://www.climbers-shop.com/246638/products/kahtoola_microspikes.aspx
Pretty handy IMO without spending crazy money.
Helvellyn by the edges still not advisable without an ice axe (& probably proper crampons) though!
Striding Edge this morning (not my pic).

Been up helvellyn today and there is plenty of snow all the way up. Hard packed snow and sections of scoured ice. Went up keppel zig zags and back down sticks and its not biking territory. Drifts up to waist height on upper section of sticks, lower half just about rideable but slushy and could easily freeze.
If you're considering it over the weekend then pass. It was snowing as i walked off tonight.
Last weekend on the bike there was a lot of ice about but also some good biking on the hard snow. If you can stay lower than the snowline then you can still get some good rides in but at a guess the snowline is about 300 or 400m on the northern fells and would be more enjoyable on skis or proper walking gear. I'm not an expert on lakes riding but borrowdale bash could be a good shout to avoid heavy snow.
Hope it helps someone!
