it did that on its own accord, then noticing that it was weighing on the remaining attached section my neighbor suggested that we knock the rest off, so we did, here:

so my question to the you learned folk, do you think this happened because:

a) the numpty that built the house stuck the gutter to far out?

or

b) the loft requires better insulation?

a)no
b)Depends how much is in there at the moment.

Its 'cause the gutter brackets are to far apart, I would've fitted them at 600mm centres.

btw, I agree with bruneep only the gutter appears to have pulled away at the joint, where there appears to be a bracket either side of it.

I suspect that meatier screws should have been used, or the pre-drilled holes were too large, or the fascia board has started rotting.

Get up there on a ladder and re-fix the brackets in a slightly different position using decent screws.

and don't try in re clip the brackets/gutter joint in while its still frosty or v cold or they will just snap.

and put a mattress under the ladder in case you fall off.

I would also say it just looks like the weight of the snow has pulled the bracket away so either rotten fascia board, rusted screws or too small screws. Also it is hard to tell from the pic, but was the jointer fixed to the fasica or was it just hanging free? As that would not of helped.

Edit: Oh, and i dont know why, but until i opened the thread and saw a picture of gutter i could have sworn the thread titles was 'snow attacked my guitar'.

That's exactly what I thought. I was expecting a melancholy blues number from the Nutt.

Cheap, shoddy building; that's what it is.

Still, what d'you expect, living in Swindle...

there are no soffits!! only facias!! never have been!

the loft is lagged, I think its probably to do with the heaps of snow that was up there, the entire weight of it was al held up by the guttering, there was a god almighty noise when the first load slid off!!

Yeah, and bet wacking the gutter with a dirty great big stick helped matters.

if the facia is wood there is a possibility of rot so check, if it is plastic use the right screws
