I think the next time this happens I'll borrow one of Binners Canadian rock CDs (Bryan Adams, Nickleback) and pop it on a portable DVD player to blast it out on whilst nodding slowly at them...

just back from california.

Ate out and went to pubs alot came across this issue precisely zero times.

who would have thought americans with better manners than the brits.

Smoking is illegal in California in any enclosed public or commercial space. When the law was first proposed, pub owners were sure their businesses would suffer. It didn't happen, people will still drink. Now they step outside to smoke, or in some cases, there is a designated outside area attached to the pub.

When I was a child, the majority of adults smoked tobacco. Now I can't think of a single adult in my immediate circle who smokes tobacco. Of course, being a cyclist, my friends are not in a smoking demographic, but nowadays in California only a small minority uses tobacco.

same as that for me all my mates smoked when we were young 2 or 3 by thirties and one now.

Stupid habit that I have to confess i enjoyed enormously when I was addicted to the stuff.

As they do here in the UK. But the thread is about smokers making it unpleasant for non-smokers to inhabit the outside areas.

repack rider - i was talking about the outside areas.

25ft from the door was the rule that seemed to be printed by all the doors and religeously enforced in cali

Worked well it seems. I liked the place.

Well done binners and claudie 🙂

It's almost 6 and a half years for me now.

I still think about them every so often, but there is no desire to smoke them and the thoughts soon pass.

Well done guys!!! 😀

I imagine with the money you've now saved you could probably now justify buying yourselves one of these:

Good to hear the success stories, I am just 19 hours clear from the e-cig. Not that I'm counting.
I might have to read through this thread to see how you did it.

Just catching up to say 'well done' chaps. Easier than you thought, in the end?

Roper, I recommend the book 'easyway to stop smoking'. It's a bit 'American' in the writing, but if you want to stop, I'd just recommend letting it do its thing. Worked for me and a few people I know.
