I dropped my £700 laptop, just a few months old.

It already had a fault with the speakers that I was about to get repaired under warranty.

Dropping it creased the alloy backcover (now straightened) and damaged the corner of the palmrest.

Within a week, the screen stopped working (HDMI output and casting the screen still works), seems to be a common fault but suspect its a result of the damage.

Do I:

Try to return to Lenovo for repair, or via John Lewis for repair (suspect with the palmrest/integrated keyboard, and screen, this will be fairly pricey) and the speakers will probably not be done under warranty now.

Claim on my house insurance...for the whole laptop as a write-off, or once I get a repair bill? I've had contents insurance for about 12 years but never claimed so not sure how it works. If they pay out, is the laptop mine to strip for parts, I imagine they won't want it?

I had this last year. Dropped my sons MS Surface onto a tiled floor while getting stuff out of a safe on holiday. M&S paid out zero fuss (less excess) and they didn't want the surface back.

I will have to check but I'm pretty sure laptops are covered, might have been something about portables but I think it was aimed at not covering smartphones...
