I'm finally thinking of getting a new mobile and entering the darkside of smartphones. The 2 I'm looking at are the HTC desire C and the Nokia Lumia 800 (fit my cost and size budgets). Anyone got one or t'other and have any good/bad things to say? Ta in advance.

Not sure if anyone's actually doing the Lumia at the mo', but I could be muddling it up with another Nokia smartphone.
There's one that has a 42Mp camera! From what I've seen of the Nokia, the Windows OS seems pretty sorted for phones, not so hot for desktops, and the Lumia phones are beautiful things. Apps are a bit thin on the ground at the mo', though.

Just bought the Nokia Lumia 710 (£89) and so far I'm very pleased, I dont really have anything to compare with as its my first smartphone but I'm finding it really easy to get on with.

I've a Samsung S2 which is great but I prefer the HTC interfaces.

Next phone will prob be an HTC.

Lumia looks nice.

I have the lumia 800 and find it to be a great bit of kit.
The OS and interface is excellent to use, everything is very simple and easy to use and just works.
Most of the comments about lack of apps are from people who have never had a Windows phone, most of the most popular IOS and Android apps have been ported across and there are lots of windows phone specific apps too.
Plus Windows phone has some functionality built in that the others require a app for such as a barcode reader,on windows its already built into the search function.
Possible downsides to a individual is the built in battery(like the iPhone) and fixed amount of storage(16gb on the lumia800).
Personally I really rate it and have owned Android phones and a iPad,iPod touch to compare it against.

710 here on contract, working out cheaper and far nicer than orange San fransisco on PAYG.

The Desire C doesn't have a flash/torch. I went for a HTC One V instead. Works out at £8.75 a month after cashback with 300 mins, unlimited texts and 250GB of data.

The windows 7 on the lumia is about to be superceded by windows phone 8, and there isn't going to be an upgrade for existing phones. Meaning hardly any new apps likely to come out. [wp8 apps won't work on wp7 I think]

One of my mates has the new Lumia (960 or something?) and swears it pi55es over the iPhone and Android counterparts (which he trialled for 3 months via work). Can't say I agree with him at all though - as a phone it may be good, but as an eco system it surely can't compare.

Cheers for the feedback, think the desire C is a bit basic but don't really like the massive size and the weird bit at the bottom of the One V.

Trout - where did you get the cashback deal from?
