Well it's time for another question that 'only' STW can answer.
I need to change my smartphone. Mine as very little battery left and turn itself off on a regular basis for no reason.
I am looking for a smart phone with some must have features :
- running on android
- with a micro USB charging port
- no bigger than 6.3" in diameter.
So what the best moneyy can buy with these features.
Happy to go second hand if I have too.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Why the micro usb limitation? USB C is just better, and it only requires a new cable.
And, what's the budget?
A pixel 6 is probably the best phone for the price right now, but that might be completely out of budget.
I'd suggest against going for a phone with a micro USB. Anything decent will come with a USB C socket and if you have got a lot of micro USB cables you can get cheap adaptor plugs to save wasting them.
With regard to screen size, I don't know how old your current phone is but if it has wide bezels a 6" screen can be just as big a phone as a 6.5" one. So don't write off a bigger one just yet.
Your best bet is to look on Hotukdeals and see what comes up. There are some very dedicated phone deal spotters.
Off the top of my head a Samsung S10e, S20 FE and S21 would be OK with regard to your screen requirements, they also have great cameras and have decent levels of water resistance.
– no bigger than 6.3″ in diameter.
Does it have to be round?

Sorry obviously I meant Diagonal width.
Concerning the micro USB charging port it's because I have currently a dozen of cables scattered around all my bags in case I need to charge my phone at some point.
I currently use a very old Wiko harry 4G so anything remotely better will do.
Thanks for the advice though I'll have a look at the forementionned website
Cheers

A pack of 3 usb C cables is under a tenner.
And you may only start with one usb C device, but everything is going that way - my Mate 20 Pro was my only usb C device a couple of years ago, but now I have ps5 controllers, headphones, and so on.
Yep go USB-C, even some laptops are now using this for their charge cable. Its silly to limit your choice of phone simply as you have loads of micro-usb leads (we all do...)
in case I need to charge my phone at some point.
But with a new phone with decent battery life you probably won't need to.
Is your 6.3" diagonal the screen or the overall size? The Nokia 7.2 is 6.3" diagonal screen, but (I've just measured mine) 6.7" diagonal overall.

I currently have a pixel 4a, that's a cheaper option and I have no intention of changing it until it's totally knackerd, so maybe in 2 or 3 years time hopefully.
Just bought a 4a for the small size. No pixel 5 stock anywhere and the 6 is too big.
It was a 4a or a proper budget Samsung a12/moto e so I went with the pixel.
I just got a 2nd hand SIM unlocked Pixel 3a for £100. Then a Spigen case and screen protector for £20 IIRC. Hopefully will last a couple of years. £6 a month on GiffGaff for minimum calls and data.
My worry about the 4a is its total lack of water resistance. I too bought it for the small size.
Why are all the new phones so big?

Yeh that was/is a concern of mine...if it was waterproof it would be the best phone on the planet. (for the money).
I'm still running a pixel 4. I like it, I'm sure the newer pixels are even better.
Mine was just shy of the 2 year mark when it got stuck in a fast boot loop so off it popped to Google and I got a new one.
I'll be keeping this one for 2 years and probably replace then.
As with everyone else, just switch to USB C a few cables and you're set again.
If your budget is less than £100 you can get a Grade A refurb Pixel 2. Nice and small, plenty quick enough unless you're a heavy gamer.
If you drop it in a puddle you won't care so much.

You might even get a Pixel 3 (and just buy some USB-C leads or adaptors).
Thanks everyone.
Looking currently for a 2nd hand S10e or a Pixel 4a. The later seems to be out of stock in Europe at the moment, and I'm not daft enought to buy a 2nd hand phone more than what it's worth new!
