Smart TRVs (HIVE) and Heating on Demand

I’ve had Hive for years now and with TRVs in all but one room I can get the house warm in the right places at the right time.  However, over and above the normal heating schedule I can only heat one room at a time (or groups of rooms) via the use of custom Quick Actions e.g. “Heat Office” boosts the heating for one hour with the office rad set to 19degC and all other rads set to 12degC (so effectively off… unless it’s really cold!)

However, I believe the Heat on Demand is supposed to do this, but I can’t figure it out. I switch HOD on and it brings the boiler to life and heats ALL rads to their desired temperature, even if I just call up heat to one.  The only way round this is to switch the other rads to ‘Off’, but predictably, when the normal timed heating schedule kicks in it ignores those rads and the house is then f’kin freezing.

Has anybody managed to use Heat on Demand successfully to heat a single room at a time? As at the start, it’s not the end of the world if not as the custom Quick Actions work fine, but it intrigues me that there is a system available that in name should already do this.

we use it a lot.

what are your other rooms set to? if the temp in the room is higher than what they're set to, the valve will be closed regardless of what heat on demand is set to. If the temp in the room is lower, the valve will be open, regardless of heat on demand

HOD just gets the valve to also ask the boiler to heat, which will then flow around the whole system and only heat rooms who's valves are open.

We have the main thermostat set to scheduled.. 10C (24/7) and heat on demand on. Each room is always at the correct temp

Bedrooms set to 18, other rooms generally set to 19 (except hallways.)

I want HoD to warm one room only, e.g. when I'm WFH (3-4 days a week) I want to boost the office room to 19, but I don't want to heat the whole house. If I set the other rads to a lower temp, I then have to change those back later (16 rads = faff) otherwise they won't heat up.  Or is there something fundamental I'm missing?

At the moment, the custom quick action works well as I can just shout "Alexa/Siri, boost office" and it does without having to faff with any settings.

It sounds like from your description, and my experience that HoD can't do what I thought it would do without a lot of manual intervention.
