Hi everyone
So, smart meters. Scot Power want us to switch our meters to smart ones.
Any disadvantages?
I guess they could cut us off remotely. I’m hoping it’ll not come to that!
I am presuming they would be the recent type 2 ones that are a bit more universal so allow switching.
What do the Singletrack pundits think? Anyone wish they’d not gone smart?
Thx
Someone I know has it and they dont work as I would have expected, he still gets estimated bills and adjustments after the winter etc... I always assumed they counter exactly what you used each month and billed you accordingly at the end of that month.
There’s a thread where this was done to death recently.
I have one because I have an off peak tariff (for charging the car). Electric off charged monthly on actual usage and I can see a graph of 30 min intervals if i want.
The gas meter is too far away from the electric meter so won’t communicate with it and send the gas readings so I have to do that manually still.
Scottish Power meters work well for me, had new SMETS 2 meters fitted mid October. Daily consumption is viewable on the meter, and your online account. Took about 60-90 minutes to fit.
Switching supplier next week, so I'll find out how well they switch over too
Ha I'm trying to get one just now and ovo say "covid"
I've got them, they work great*, I get 30 minute pricing, sometimes I'm paid to use electricity, I've also a smart hot water cylinder that switches to electric when it's cheaper than gas and then picks the very cheapest 30 minute periods to heat.
*Very dependent on energy company.
