[Closed] Smart Heating - Plumber or Electrician?

I have semi smart heating, two zones of underfloor heating with wireless thermostats, these connect to a wireless receiver which, in turn, connects to a Hub and my broadband. The rest of the house has radiators which are controlled by a dumb thermostat and traditional RF receiver. I have a wireless thermostat to replace this but I need to rewire jiggery to remove the RF receiver and instead have that part of the heating controlled by the wireless receiver.

Its quite a new system but the guy who fitted it has gone awol and not picking up my calls or replying to my texts.

Do I need to get a plumber in or an electrician? Its definitely all electrical work, nothing to do with pipes but as it controls boiler I do not know which trade to look at.

If anyone knows of someone in the Scottish Borders to do this that would be even better!

My plumber installed the Nest boiler-side bit but then he was replacing the boiler as well, I would have thought an electrician would be fine to do it to (quite a few people self-install so I'm guessing it's not too complicated).

I self installed. it is properly really simple. the only skills you need are the ability to strip wires and connect them into connector blocks. The hardest part is understanding your current system and how it works and the routing of all the wires.

Electrician did ours. I did originally ask the plumber but he said get the electrician to do it as he was already doing some other work.

Very much this. I had a look at the wiring and couldn’t make sense of it at all.

I had the plumber fit ours during the install of the new boiler. He asked me to check the app side of things whilst he nipped to get some pipe clips or something. I found out he'd installed it in the less functional configuration so got him to change it when he came back, I basically had to tell him how to install it the other way by reading the instruction manuals for the both the controller and the boiler (that they are "approved" installers of). I would have no problems doing the same install myself in the future if I had to, assuming it's not breaking any laws by opening that part of the boiler.

For the curious: I specifically ensured that both boiler and controller were OpenTherm compatible and the plumber had connected the controller via the simpler/dumb on/off connection instead.

Moral of the story. Either a plumber or an electrician should be able to do it, it's not difficult. Whether they do it correctly or well depends on the individual.
