I had a few Crew shirts, but found the cuffs bobbled up after ironing, put me off them as nothing worse than tatty cuffs on a shirt...

John Lewis will have some nice short sleeved ones reduced as we head into autumn. Go for something with a turn-up on the sleeve for “smart”. Short sleeved keeps it casual.

nice short sleeved ones

Is the OP a bus driver or a photocopier repair guy?

Charles Thyritt are pretty good. I'm currently sat in an H&M job in the sale, I have a few, they look fine, they were dirt cheap and I'm treating them as disposable.

If the OP is going for short-sleeved, avoid double pockets - go for a single or none at all.

You need a single to keep a leaking biro, a small screwdriver and 20 Benson in.

Or the paramedic scraping you up of the road; wind your neck in! 😉

Seriously though, I don’t understand the anti short sleeve shirt sentiment; obvs not such a great look if worn plain with a full pen clip and tie, but surely worn open necked and untucked with a nice pattern is not a totally ultrashite look? (Not that I particularly care, I can’t stand my forearms being covered by anything but an overgarment, that can be removed when inside).

Next have a good selection of casual shirts.

I don't mind spending decent money on jeans and shoes but begrudge spending £50+ on shirts.

I just go to Debenhams. They have a good selection of Jeff Banks, John Roscha and Jasper Conran shirts. You'll definitely get sorted there

Tesco £8 for work

Joe Browns have some cool shirts at decent prices, especially in the sales.

Sleeves on shirts in general are shite and need to be pushed or rolled up. Short sleeved shirts should not be plain, the crazier the better.

The polo shirt is the choice for the fast food worker or photocopier repairer these days. Get out of the 90’s you bunch of grandads 😉

Don't be too harsh on them. The long sleeved shirts go with their double-breasted suits 😀

It was just a suggestion - they’re often cooler in warm offices and give one’s armpits a bit more breathing space.

Also, generally read where binners says he goes. And, don’t go there.

Don't listen to what he's saying about warm offices either. He's never been in one of those in his life. He's trying his 'man of the people' shtick. Don't fall for it. Its like when David Cameron tried it. He's typing that from a penthouse apartment in New York while a team of his flunkies cater to his every whim

Love the short sleeve hate.

I got a right slating from an insurance client for wearing one with a pocket, which he said would have been ripped off on my first day in any insurance office.

I always thought the short sleeve work shirt should have got a massive boost after Michael Douglas in Falling Down.

Joules for me. Regular sales, so a decent price.

Also have a couple of old school Ralph Lauren button downs. Multi use shirts, can be tucked in to chino's and look reasonably smart or untucked with a pair of jeans and still pull of the smart / casual look.

I did go through a Marks and Spencer's phase, thankfully realised I'm not ready for elasticated trousers quite yet.

Uniqlo do a wide selection of smart/casual shirts. I like their flannel shirts, but they do a whole bunch of others suitable for office as well. Their Oxford cotton shirts are £20

A breast pocket is ok for smart casual. Short sleeved shirts though, are never acceptable. That is the domain of the t-shirt.

Did you lot banging on about long sleeves note those word ‘casual’ in the OP’s request?

You lot are the type of deviants who iron creases down the front of your jeans, aren’t you? Or, even worse.... wear chino’s? 😳

Short sleeved shirts are for Vets too.

Who wants long sleeves when you’ve got an afternoon of shoving your hand up a large selection of cows arses. (Actually many years since I did farm practice but remember it well)

Hate how difficult it is to find a nice short sleeve shirt in a pattern ( hides the shit better)

Have taken to buying long sleeved and having them altered.

Why would you want a collar on a short sleeved shirt?? Maybe you're the type to wear a tie with a short sleeved shirt? 🙂

Sometimes, should one have to wear a sports jacket or suit-blazer all day, and it’s hot, a short sleeved shirt is ideal for ventilation. If the sports jacket isn’t coming off, who’s going to know anyway?

You’re all a bit weird. Short sleeved shirts, the casual variety, are the best type of shirts. Ralph Lauren and jeans is the Chav chic look. Board shorts or jeans and short sleeved shirts are great. Who do you all look like, the presenters from Top Gear or minor royals?

So if small = unfashionable, long = stylish, maybe there's an acceptable intermediate 27.5" size?

Cuff-links with the long sleeves I presume? Really handy and comfortable for doing anything more practical than standing round talking bolocks all day 😂

What about duelling, surely duelling is a bit like work and allowed especially if ones honour has been called in to question?

What cuff links to go with my rapier?

Short sleeve, open neck not tucked in is fine.

White short sleeve with tie is car salesman, bus driver etc, etc,.

With long sleeved shirts you also have the added task of co-ordinating your tie and braces eh Flashy?

Absolutely.

And your cuff links do make that sort of tap dance sound when you are at your desk tapping out bollocks too.

So, stand up bollocks and sit down bollocks.

As for the Top Gear references, there’s nothing more showing than wearing a short sleeve shirt, jeans and loafers.

Dear God.
