The standard work issue phone used to be an ancient Nokia with nothing, but we were invited to spend our own cash on smartphones, what with us being mobile tech consultants and all. However just found out that the standard phone is now a very respectable budget Android. This makes me happy because I was trying to figure out how to make one of my old ones work which are either shite or broken.

What's cheered you up today?

The office dog (a big friendly German Sheppard/Collie cross from the unit next to our work) charged at me from across the car park with a football sized tennis ball in its mouth!

Then proceeded to not let me have the ball and just made snorting noises at me. 🙂

Overhearing a conversation between 2 colleagues today:

Person 1: "What's their surname again?"
Person 2: "Mustard"
Person 1: "As in English mustard?"
Person 2: "No, French mustard"

Getting an appointment arranged to see a potential customer tomorrow. Its been a quiet week so far and when you've just started working for yourself every appointment made is a small victory in itself.

enjoyed seeing how many names for young animals my four year old daughter now knows (quite a lot, including Kid/Goat)

Even better when she said a baby cow was a carton. 🙂

Just unloaded a pickup load of oak rings for the firewood production line.
I've not swung the chainsaw in anger since before easter - it was strangely therapeutic

I saw Tim Vine last night, he didn't do that joke. He did do a bunch of less funny jokes though, so that made up for it.

Having a very nicely spoken lady holding my hand as a consultant carried out laser surgery on my left eye at Moorfields this afternoon, as well as Alberto the anaesthetist who held the other hand.

It's a small victory. 🙂

Got a parking ticket in the space of about 10 minutes being parked up. Went to the parking ticket HQ and pointed out that the parking machine was broken so I couldn't actually pay and display. They ripped up the ticket.

Noice!

Getting a "cheers mate" from one of the kids we had mountain biking today, his care worker was impressed.

Negated by the lazy, you bloody teachers get loads of holidays, about an hour later.

Got my old Saab back from the garage after 2 days while the owner tried to sort out steering vibration and auto box not being 'quite right'!

He'd resealed and balanced a wheel, swapped the backs to the front and had the gearbox open to double check all was ok before changing the oil................... That'll be £23 please 😀

Bloke left my team today - I'd arranged his present of 20 assorted beers and a couple of books about trail/ultra running.

He gave me a bottle of homemade limoncello in return.

Sittiing outside at Tebay North on the M6 and I heard a plane approaching. Got a head-on view of a Tornado at 300 ft tuning right over my head, wings extended, stunning sight and sound!

Just about managed to shut it so that I didn't fall out during my snooze on the way back to the yard.

Local one-stop doing 3 x 660ml bottles of Peroni for £5, unfortunately they weren't chilled, the guy behind the counter gave me a tip that if I wrapped the bottles in wet kitchen roll and stuck them in the freezer they'd be chilled in a matter of minutes. Bloody well worked too.

Made a new friend in Wentwood forest today. Black lab followed me from one end of the woods to the other - when I realised he wasn't going back I had to call the number on his collar. Cue a rather lengthy slog back up the DH track to find his owner. Cheers for the company Monty! 😀

My oldest lad absolutely having a ball on his first excursion to the big pool at the local swimming baths..
Squid and octopus 'salad' from the fishmongers..
A chance conversation yesterday leading to the unerringly pleasant and cheerful young lad from the corner shop taking over my girlfriend's flat when she moved out today..

I did the nursery and school holiday club run this morning. Both boys were brilliant for their poor old dad who had got in from a gig /live band at 1245 this morning. Even alcohol free less than six hours sleep was not the freshest of starts!

Phonecall from a very helpful man at HMRC (yes, such people do exist!) telling me that they have sorted out the tax refund which went to the wrong bank details and I should get it next week. Plus compensation from HMRC and my bank for the fact it's taken 3 months to work out what happened to the money...
