Got to get a wiggle on and get a small company car. But I've no idea what to go for, the list seems endless.
BMW 116d 5 door sport
VW match or GT TDI bluemotion
BMW 318d touring
BMW 320ES
Audi A3 Black Edition
Mini Coopers inc ALL4s
Load of others.
As it's a second car I like the idea of the cheaper 13% rather than the 18% larger BMWs etc.
Guidance.

I miss my Golf.
That's what I'd choose.

what do you want in a car?

if you just want it cheap, get something with <100co2 emissions - volvo c30/s40/v50 drive tick those boxes, as do the mini, citroen ds3, etc.

its worth noting the 'bands' for bik are decreasing as time goes on, so if you have to keep it for 3 years bare that in mind

that said, the new bmw 3 series efficient dynamics is in the 13% band, brand new car, and meant to be very good

I have the VW Golf Match TDi Bluemotion and I love it.

That said the rest of the list looks good too.

Toyota Prius or the Avensis version. (you look to be spending a similar amount compared to your list thee.

And another vote for the Smart Coupe, go deisel, go deisel..

diesels have higher bik than an equivilent petrol though..

by smart coupe do folk mean one of these

[img] [/img]

they stopped making them years ago so wouldn't be eligable as a company car.. (the 'regular' smart is sometimes badged as a coupe but its not often known as such)

If all you want is a car, just go for the lowest combination of co2/list price that meets your objectives.

That's right, be boring.
Or, get the biggest engined BMW 1 series you can. Fun!

Golf Match is very nicely specced for the price - the latest bluetooth (that does audio streaming, etc), DAB radio, front/rear parking sensors, leather wheel, etc. It's what I'd probably pick off that list.

Citroen DS3. The more secondhand ones in five years time, the better 🙂

BMW 318d Touring. practically perfect and low tax.
Mini Clubman D with seats down. Great fun and super low tax.

I'd second a DS3 actually. Just got one myself on the company scheme and it's a fantastic little car. Handles and goes just as well as any Mini and build quality is just as good - forget Citroens of the past, this one is actually screwed together well! If you are ok with the 'citroen image' (and it is a great looking car) then it would be my choice for something cheap, economical and fun. Reliability wise, the engine was co-developed with BMW and is the exact same unit as used in the Mini so good on that front. I've yet to see if the electrics live up to Citroen's reputation but I honestly don't have any worries about them.

I've got the 1.6 Turbo petrol which does about 35-40mpg, but the diesels go up to 70mpg (99g/km model) if you want maximum economy.

Haha, yeah, I have to admit they are slightly stupidly bright. The first time I started the car at night and the car in the space in front of me was lit up I didn't really think anything of it, assuming that the auto headlights had turned on. Then when I started to pull away, realised it was just the DLRs! I'm pretty sure you can turn them off if you delve into the settings menus enough - might have to look into that tonight...

1 series BMW are poky little boxes. I had one ( a 123d) as a hire car and I couldn't fit in the front of it; my head was hitting the roof. There was not enough room behind the drivers seat to put a briefcase either.

At least a Golf you can get an adult in the front and back. Don't dicount Focus either. As good as the Golf, but doesn't have the fashionable tag.

I was in the same delemour as you but chose and took delivery of my company (loaded with toys) Mini Countryman 2wd Cooper D two weeks ago and it's just perfect.
Fast enough, comfy, nippy around town, really cheap on the emisions tax etc, cruise control on motorways, dab radio, tow bar fitted so carrying 3 bikes on the back is no problem.

Test drive one

the new 1series is significantly bigger, but I've not heard of problems with headroom before - did you adjust the drivers seat down?

No test drives yet, but now drawn to the Clubman Cooper D. 72 MPG low emissions, good load space. Even with all the upgrades it's still under 20k.

Seat Ibiza 1.2 TSi SC. 105 bhp but still £30 tax and 55.4 MPG.

Or if you want something bigger the Seat Leon 1.4 TSi. More tax, emissions and fuel consumption, though.
