I'm thinking of doing some more of my 3D landscape sculptures (on the side) at work but want to be able to sell them properly (the local theatre has displays for sale, local art fairs etc).
Question is, do I need to be set up as a business or (if I earn over £1k a year) do I just self assess?
There would only be 2 suppliers - my work for machine time and my bro-in-law for timber for the frames so should be easy keeping a track on costs/invoices etc.
Anyone dome similar?
When I was doing some freelance writing work I notified HMRC and they sent me self-assessment paperwork, but after a couple of years they said I wasn't earning enough for it to be worth their while (£1 - 2k p/a). What they did then was add a nominal average to my tax code so it was taken PAYE from my main employment.
