He is having a good game, always hustling around making options for the player on the ball, watch the 30 seconds before Lingards goal, he makes the goal by his constant movement creating spaces.

That he did but I do think he is in to get over the line and wake up his confidence, the subs will be itching to get in amongst this, Going to be very few first choice players for Panama in their last game

I normally have sympathy for the smaller teams, underdog & all that, but frankly Panama deserve to be humiliated. Appalling behaviour from them.

They are behaving the same as Tunisia did in the first game, but the refs in this second round of matches are wise to it.

Just gone to put a bet on at least one red card in the second half and the bookies aren’t taking bets on that. They’re not daft! 😂

But he is playing well, his movement and link play has been good. I'll take a lack of goals if he enables the better finishers (like John Stones;-) to finish.

I know it's a weak group, but I think that expectations have been so low this year that it's takes the pressure off them.

Also has this been done ?

Great result ..apart from that I had a lot of fun once I realised that my son was watching it through his PS4 upstairs in his room with two other lads and four lasses ..which was running a full 90 seconds behind the tv ...he was going nuts when I let him know in advance of the third & fourth goals ...

Well that's what dad's are for ..innit 😂

What a completely shit concept, it will concentrate power even more in the richer footballing nations, who will be the only ones able to afford to keep their best players in their domestic leagues. Do we really want to bring moronic Trump style protectionism to sport?

Anyway, 3 games today and 14 goals, it has largely been a great world cup so far.

Just a thought regarding England, is this going to be one of those tournaments where an injury allows a manager to stumble across their best team/formation. Without Deli Alli yesterday England did look much more balanced. Wonder if he'll be back when he recovers.

Mitro ..please zip it !

Demanding a move to Fulham as being your only destination will get you absolutely nowhere ..you won't get a game again anyway for Newcastle and as has been proven in the past delivering ultimatums to this regime only works against you .

You will be sold when the club's asking price is met ..otherwise you will rot in the reserves ( u23's)..

I'm slightly disappointed by this outburst as up to this point I was one of your fans who believed you deserved more of a chance than you have had .

No longer ..

I’m watching the Spain game. Mainly as Mark Lawrenson is commentating on the Portugal match

Morocco aren’t half giving them a game they weren’t expecting! They’re so fast on the counter. Spain look half asleep. Amrabat just absolutely rattled the woodwork with what would have been a content for goal of the tournament if it had been an inch or two lower.

Come on Morocco!!!

What an awful game. Terrible use / misuse of VAR. Both teams just looking for free kicks and bookings. Referee getting mobbed. Woeful game.

Well that was the most bizarre end of the game there, no idea that was the final whistle the 2 coaches just looking at each other before a hug and off they go. Portugal look vulnerable though Uruguay could have fun with them.

This one and the England Tunisia game were the bad adverts for VAR, there have been some good examples out there. BUT they need to take a look at some of those dives after the event a lot of bad simulation there.

Ha!

It was close no?

Every Portuguese player deserves some AmDram award. Constant whining and falling over themselves.

Its a shame Iran are out, it would have made a good story.

You watched the wrong game. Spain v Morocco was an absolute blinder! Proper manic last ten minutes. Catch the highlights to watch Ramos get skinned in the air with a proper thumping header from Morocco. Spain should have been down to ten men from the first half

The VAR stuff is becoming a bit of a farce. Maybe it's just the refs needing more training, but the Portugal game was silly. Players rolling around and exaggerating reactions more than ever before, it's getting out of hand. Do we need to use a system like the NFL where the coach or the captain gets a certain number of challengers per game so we a) don't waste time and b) players stop play acting quite so much?

I'd go with Liniker's assesment that it's more right than wrong and it's finding some of that in the box set play stuff that was being missed. I heard this ref was complained about by Egypt, he would probably have been fine when this was going to be a dead rubber but Iran got up for it, both sides lost it and it needed a top level official to sort it out.

A simple review of the footage after the game would have told FIFA who to be checked, booked and spoken too.

Well, that was uncomfortable watching (Por-irn) the Iranian bench trying to whip up the crowd during the ref inspecting the replays, and then the constant looking for fouls and goading players into reacting.

my view for VAR is that the ref should get one view, at full speed, and if he can’t see the issue, he can’t give the penalty/card/whatever. Players suggesting he check the VAR should be booked, as they are for suggesting a player be carded.

As an aside, who found a shipping crate full of vuvuzelas before the game?

It is, but we're going there far too often. And the Por pen should never of been given, again, this is maybe a case for more training, but I don't think the system is adding much. The offside call in the other game - perfect use.

I think there should be a ref in the stands with the monitor who can advise the pitch ref, should he request it. Like rugger I guess - there is so much time wasted with the red trotting over to the pitch side monitor.

Players should also be booked if they do the VAR symbol thing and coaches sent to the stands.

Yep much prefer the Rugby/Cricket version making the Ref do the recheck is just football trying to invent things themselves rather than just accepting stuff was better.

A heap of stuff on appealing, goading and diving needs to be done in Football but it would result in needing a 30 man squad for the group stages at this one

Var has been fine, it's still open to interpretation and clownshow refs though, so it won't completely irradicate the controversy!

The two are pretty inseparable, no? Throw in the behaviour of the players who now have an incentive to over act to get things reviewed and I see potential issues.  Rugby doesn't seem to have these issues, but maybe it's just the mentality of the players in both sports.

Certainly an interesting couple of games for mostly the wrong reasons, but plenty of drama. How long will that Iranian who had the chance to score at the end rue his miss. All his life? 😮
