Neymar should've been off - 1 x yellow for diving, 1 x yellow for mouthing off to the ref

VAR  working is good. Neymar shown up to be the bawbag that he is. And defo a penalty for Iceland. The taker was a clear flapper mind you and stick o. To sky it. Was still a penalty though!

now honestly - was that total airshot (airhead) any worse that Caballero's error, or De Gea's fumble, or Karius's flap

But can you even remember who it was now, 2 minutes later?

Bloody hell! Pick that out! 😳

Another absolutely top drawer finish there from Seitzerland ! Goal of the tournament already has some pretty serious contenders. And theyve not come from the usual suspects.

I try and defend the officials, it's a tough job, but did all the VAR team nip out for a piss briefly?

Righto then. Looks like we’ll have to be happy with being runners up. Belgium absolutely mullering Tunisia.

Yeah but they do look like they will concede so it's going to be tough, other part is the England and Belgium players know a lot about each other

In the office:

“We’re gonna win!”

”England look crap lol acting like they’ve won the World Cup at every goal.”

“Belgium will destroy England.”

“Well they better win tomorrow.”

😳

Depending how that other group goes, losing to Belgium could be no bad thing. The further we manage to stay away from ze Germans the better.

Lets see how they turn up against Sweden first, though knocking the stuffing out of Belgium would do a lot of good for England, momentum works

Looking like Mexico to top the group at this rate, if Sweden get something out of the game it's very bad news for the Germans

I think that was just because of the amount of time Terry Butcher kept saying 2 clean sheets.

Going to be a very big game this evening

It will be interesting to see if they can respond tonight, I am not sure they will. Other than Werner up front they are not blessed with any real speed in the squad.

The view from some of my German colleagues is that Low isn't a great manager, he hasn't underachieved, but he hasn't overachieved with the players he has either. Germany has a good structure behind the scenes and pretty much any manager could have achieved what he has.

At full speed I thought it was 50/50, on the replay it was a definite pen.

Has there actually been any penalties awarded by var? I have seen them overturned, and I have seen a few that should have been given, but I don't think I have seen one awarded that the ref has missed yet.

Germany are very lucky to be only one down. That was a nailed on penalty, because they were absolutely all over the place at the back

I didn’t think I’d ever say that about a German defence 😳

You’ll have probably guessed I’m not a football fan, but I’ve been watching most of the games since the start and that game was the most frantic and fast paced and nerve wracking as I’ve ever seen.

Fit boys aren’t they.

Blimey, they need a week of and a few beers I’d imagine.

Good result though IMO, even though I wanted Sweden to win .. Germany were relentless and committed.

Ten seconds before the he hit the free kick I said to my GF that there was a goal coming.

Should have put some money on it...!

Favourites to go through now anyhow, even if Sweden beat Mexico (doubt they will)it's a goal difference shootout, and you'd expect the Germans to take a few off Korea.

I had a great line about Germany not doing very well in Russia....

Then I also had one about set pieces as they wasted so many too,

morning all, we all ready for the main event?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44439183

BBC reckons Sterling will start, which I could probably get if they want to give him one last chance to get into the goals for England, Rashford on late would hopefully let them cut through a tiring Panama.

Rumours of a weaker Belgium for the last game keep coming up too

I think they should play a front three of Rashford, Kane and Sterling. so play a 3-4-3. Play three proper centerbacks, Maguire, Cahil and Stones. In midfield Henderson holding, Cheek bridging to the front three, the midfield wide men would be the difficult question, they wouldn't have to get forward as much due to Rashford and Stones playing wide, but would need help out centrally, so I would probably go with Delph on the left and Trippier on the right.

For me the big difference will be Cheek for Ali, everyone is jumping on the bandwagon scapegoating sterling, but the whole team looked worse in the first match after Ali got injured, and didn't look better until he was replaced.

Rumours of a weaker Belgium for the last game keep coming up too

If we beat Panama, maybe we should give some other players run outs too, hard balance as to whether you keep a winning formula going for momentum, or keep the squad fresh. What is the score with yellow cards being carried into the next stages as well?

BBQ’s have started down here, though I think it’s more to do with it being a lovely sunny day than a football game.

If g’urland scrape a 0-0 draw I guess that’s a “win” innit ?

I’m looking forward to Jpn vs Sen, so off for a run and back in time for sushi 🍣

Yes in this game, but Belgium also looked sloppy at the back, some of always seems to be you bring your game for the opposition, I'd expect it to be another level against Belgium and 2 Euro teams will be a very different style
