Hey

I am looking to buy a SLR soon to use for mtb etc, but it has to have HD video recording. What are people using? I was thinking about a Canon 550D?

I've got a Nikon D7000. Well pleased with it

Depending on all the many many preferences which could swing it one way or another, I would also investigate the Lumix GH2.

That would probably make it a more video-centric purchase though.

Obviously there are higher up models in the Canon range to consider. 600D, 650D and 60D being the main ones.

If you want an easy decision, then stick to the 550D.

Editing software is probably going to make more of a difference than camera choice.
I would heartily recommend Adobe Lightroom for photos (the 500d is supported on LR2 I think which would be cheap).

I've yet to be happy with a video tool.

BTW - there's a load of refurb 550Ds here (from Canon)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290756193147&clk_rvr_id=373727487369

£382.94 including the IS kit lens.

HD video bargain?

If the rotating screen on the 600D tempts you, then it's also on the canon ebay outlet for £353 body only.

I'm tempted myself so that I can get video, but really like the size/handling of my current 40D
