The flying ant thread reminded me.

Last night just after dark in our garden...slugs absolutely everywhere! 100s of them easily.

First warm evening in a while, but quite damp at the same time.

Any idea why?

It's unlikely they flew there.

If you mean leopard slugs they extremely useful in the garden. Firstly they are territorial and predatory towards other slugs, and secondly they eat decaying vegetation not healthy stuff.

They also eat fox shit. What's not to like?

Edit:

That^^ doesn't seem to work. This should:

We have at least two hedgehogs visit the garden and still have lots of slimey slugs.

They even hang out in the hedgehog feeding station. They are not always good for hogs as I think they carry lung worm.

I spent a day walking once only to find one had been in my boot. Exploded slug under the fingernails isn't the most pleasant thing

The slime make it easier to balance on your upper lip, for any Charlie Chaplin impressions you care to do.

Apparently in Japan they give snail facials as a chemical in the slime of slugs and snails tightens the skin.

Slugs are just snails that have lost their shell.

Slugs are just snails that have lost their shell.

And that's because you can't slide into narrow crevices and crannies when you have your house sitting on your back.

I had a racing snail once that wasn’t as competitive as I thought it should be. Reasoning that his low top speed may be due to poor aerodynamics of his shell I removed it making him much much sleeker to cut through the air.
Didn’t work tho, if anything it made him more sluggish

Might I suggest you're wearing your boots wrong?

They are gender fluid hermaphrodites, and there's nothing wrong with that.

You really shouldn't look though.

I remember a few years back, when I used to take my dog out on the bike (I was on the bike, she ran) the path got covered in slugs, it was hard to ride down without running quite a few of them over. Must've been 5 years ago.. not seen it like that since. Maybe I ran over all the pregnant ones...
