[Closed] Sliding Aluminium doors ... Triple glazed with integral blinds possible?

The next phase of my not-so-Grand Design is underway. Currently 4 rooms in states of partial repair and decoration, now it's time to trash the kitchen and knock a few walls down.

Mrs. F wants one side of the kitchen taking out and mahooosive sliding aluminium doors shoving in - about 6m in total in 3 panels with the middle one a sliding unit. We were looking at Sunflex, and got very excited when they said they could do triple glazing with blinds integrated into the glazing unit. But now they tell us we could only have double glazing with integrated blinds as the triple glazing is too thick.

Google isn't proving very helpful. I know the glass can be done with integrated blinds (Morley Glass), but any good sliding doors around that can take the 44mm section needed?

Thanks for any help.

Yes you can but you'll most likely be looking at the third as an external unit that opens for cleaning.

Try these guys.... W have a similar issue ( we want bifolds) and I stumbled across their site earlier.

No experience of them though.

Schueco lift slide doors (and plain sliding) will take a 44mm unit. Express bifolding doors might be able to help as I know they do Schueco folding sliding doors

44mm is standard for triple glazing isn't it? The 3G windows/doors we've just fitted are 4/16/4/16/4 (ie 3 panes of 4mm glass with 16mm air gaps). I didn't consider blinds but suspect they need a gap between the panes of significantly more than 16mm so you actually need a larger profile or can only have 2G.

Pellini (blinds) come in 22 and 27mm cavity depending on model and drop

Thanks all.

Tried Express earlier today but can't take triple in their units.

Morley said they'd do 4/20/4/12/4 to take their integrated blinds which look like Pellini so I guess they must be in the 20mm cavity. Just need to find someone whose doors will take those units.

Will look at some of the suggestions here.

Are you sure you want integrated blinds? They look terrible as they block the top of the glass when they are up. They can break and then your glazing unit is stuffed. Lots of companies won't even do a 2m wide tripe glazed unit as it will weigh in the region of 300kg and needs specialist lifting equipment. You are going to be in for serious cash.

The light blockage isn't much of an issue as they will be ceiling height, and there are beams in the kitchen that would mean external blinds couldn't be set any higher than the integrated ones anyway.

Note the point about them breaking ... it's a risk, but time will tell.

What's the orientation of the building. A brise soleil is a better bet to the south, but appreciate you need blinds to the west. I would really research having integrated blinds on a moving large panel window. I suspect it's not common for a reason. See Olsen doors and windows, kloeber, internorm

Thanks for the pointers. South West is the orientation, but also need them for privacy (garden is pretty private but not totally so, so want to be able to lower blinds in the evening).

Kitchen also houses dogs, so non-integrated blinds less than ideal.

Integral blinds is not a problem on sliders with double glazing - plenty do it incl. Sunflex - and triple glazing is available, just not both (as the width is too big for most aluminium frames).
