Someone mentioned this in another thread - anyone doing it/done it? Quite fancy giving it a go in a pair but only 5 weeks to go and I'm about as fit as a 90 year with a bad smoking habit at the moment! Thought it might give me something to concentrate on for a few weeks 🙂

I believe I'm doing it with some convent team. Five weeks is plenty of time to get used to riding when you feel like shit. It's surprising how you can go when you think you're finished.

I've done it twice. Once in the rain/mud - bike and soul destroying nightmare. Once in the dry - good fun.

It's a pretty laid back event. A lap takes around 50 min's give or take. There's nothing to technical and no mega climbs. The night laps were my favourite bit.

You might want to book Monday off work to recover.

Did this as a pair last year, loved it. Came 19th overall so hoping for a better result this year seeing as we had a 3 hour sleep (at the same time) the last time....

Pairs is quite hard, you don't really get much of a chance to recover between stints even if you're running doubles, which most people do, but that said, I'm quite a normal sort of rider and we managed pairs there a couple of years back.

Also, you won't see your riding partner for longer than 30 seconds or so at a time during the race itself, so you don't get quite the same sort of warm, fuzzy, team love you get with, erm, teams. Mind you, that can be a bonus depending on who you're riding with.

If it's your first 24-hour race, a team is a slightly gentler introduction. But got for it, what's the worst that can happen, other than iDave following you for 20 minutes ogling your 'team strip' 🙂

iDave.

Let me know if you want to borrow a light for SiTS.

I had a 401 at Mayhem, the user was very pleased with the performance.

Good luck with the run this week.

For anyone who doesn't know. iDave is on a charity run this week.

I thought you were going for it solo iDave?

Yeti get the bloody entry in or I'll enter a selection of people I deem appropriate and inform them afterwards.

That's demeaning to clothing designers. I think you need to look deeper beneath the surface, or something like that... 😉

I'm sure there are loads of people out there just begging you to enter them, Moley. I'd ask first though, it's basic politeness and you could be deep in trouble otherwise.

perhaps a pair might be a bit too much then, although was kinda hoping that my OH would cover most of the laps 🙂 Maybe one for next year after a bit of a practice!

Did he know about that? 🙂

Pairs is hard, but that shouldn't stop you from doing it 🙂 What stops me from doing it is never actually seeing your mate during the whole event.

I had grand plans to do pairs at Bristol this year (12 hour) which was scary enough the thought of 6 hours of riding, you should start with that next June, my potential crazy thought was then sits as a pair! But I'm sure I'm being way too optimistic. COuldn't do Bristol though do to Mr MC and his injury 🙁 so I trained for nowt ......

@ mol lol, I was going to tell him when we got there honest! 😀

MC do you think that perhaps Mr MC doesn't like riding bikes so every time you plan something bike related he causes himself an injury to get out of it? 🙂

I'll be riding solo and it looks like I won't have a support crew, although I will have an enormous tent.
Do any teams or pairs want to share a well lit spacious tent as their pit area in return for keeping me fed, watered and motivated ?

Graham, I'm soloing 24/12, so I'm not racing at SITS, but I have a provisional sort of arrangement to come along and look after some mates who are racing pairs, so I'm sure we could maybe work something out along those lines.

ps: I'm not going vegan for the weekend though... 😉

Lol @ Emma82 ...well I'll say no as he's a flipping Northerner so doesn't so subtle I think falling off his bike is a bit extreme he just would've said "no flipping way" 😉
Catton Park is Derby, i'll be doing sits as a mixed team although we have a space now as mr MC can't do it!!

BWD, that would be great.
I'm riding 24/12 too and I'm not sure two 24 hour solos two weeks apart is a good idea.
The tent really is huge with fluorescent lighting and you, and they, are welcome to use it as an undercover maintenance, eating, getting changed or just hanging around area. It beats trying to work out of the back of a car and a little hiking tent.

Right who wants to join The Convent team then?

Junky was going to pit bitch
Molly... what are the likelihood of reallylilgrips stopping you from riding?
Dave you in?
Torm? You can't pay in bitcoin.
Not sure if DirtyG will make the trip down... any other young ladies called emsz fancy doing it?

Okay, I'll track you down at 24/12 and we can have a chat there. I think you'll be pushing it trying to do two solos that close together. I stupidly tried something similar last year, solo and pairs, and screwed up both of them as a result, but everyone's different and the worst that can happen is you get to sit watching iDave's lycra-clad butt for 20 minutes.... maybe 😉

Tricky... it was meant to be mixed, but if we can't get an official lady to commit it'll just be a team of 4.

I just want 4 (or 5, come on ladies) definites and I'll book it.

TSY, if you're short of a lady rider I can ask Sassy Sarah.
She doesn't post on here much, but she's on the STW Endomondo Challenge and she rode in MuddyPuddle's team at MM.

Right the deal so far is...

Torminalis definitely can't make it. This leaves a space from the original mixed team. My money is on a team of 4 unless Sassy Sarah fancies it.

What I don't want to happen is splashing out the entry fee and having no entrants.

singlespeed team? 🙂

Well. i'm seriously tempted. Haven't done a 24hr this year. Done lots of road biking (Ruined my shoulder last month so mtb has been out of question)

Presumably its enthusiast category or is there someone that races expert/elite?

I did it last year as a pair, with muddypuddle.

It was my first 24 hour event and I was a bit apprehensive about it all.

But....I absolutely loved it and had a huge amount enjoyment & fun out of it all.....I found it hard, especially the lack of sleep, but its amazing what your body & mind can do even when its tired...

The highlights for me was the waking up at 4am and seeing all the lights on the course and the calm and eery feeling of the morning mist....and of course the finish line....

My only goal was to have fun and not quit ! It was dry and dusty which made it all the better!

Jamie can be dietitian, and 2nd in command of standing around looking good.

Emma... essentially it involves standing around looking good. The less clothing you can get away with the better. You also get to shout at really tired people and be prepared to have them shout back at you...

Agree that pairs is hard! Yo do never really see your team mate so a good pit crew is essential really.

Did it last year as a pair and came 5th (2mins of 4th 😆 ) However if it's your first i'd do it as a team.

They will be convent teams.

I might do it as a solo and use the teams as pace makers? Or, when I catch up on all my lost sleep I'll realise that's a silly idea.

I want to do this, but it would just be me, solo with no support crew etc.

Which is putting me off, as it'll be my first solo. Esp as I usually end up breaking myself quite badly on such events.

Does anyone remember the guy who broke his ankle in D2D a few years ago *points thumbs at himself*, yup.

Do you need a Motivational Speaker? I can do motivation. All our Team Bullheart riders suddenly rode a lot faster when they saw me trackside. 🙂

What are the opposition?

Scum!

And what are we going to do to them?

Grind them into the dirt like the dogs that they are!

Supportive team hugs afterwards though. Very important.

Bit of a delay in replying, I missed this at the time. 😳

I think you'll be pushing it trying to do two solos that close together.

Yes, the timing is not ideal. I did 12 at Erlestoke, 12 at Bristol the following weekend, then 24 at MM two weeks after that. I'm still not recovered now.

I've not had a reply from SassySarah or IronGirl (the vegan triathlete) yet.
