We've always had sleeping bag liners for our summer weight sleeping bags. if it's super hot just sleep in the liner, if it's cool adds some warmth. Can wash them after each trip and the bag less often.

Current ones were Decathlon Silk and they've shredded after what feels like not many years.  They're £40.

Is there anything better?  I thought I'd find cheap (and maybe even good) silk on Aliexpress but not much showed up.

Theres Lifeventure silk for £45, Sea to Summit 'silk blend' £55

They're all sub 200g

Then artificial fibre stuff - nature hike nylon on amazon £22, Mountain equipment 'lyocell' can be picked up for less than £30 but getting bulkier and heavier (600g)

Any recommendations?

The nicest sleeping bag liner I've used was a cotton/silk blend. It wore out eventually but had a nicer, more robust feel than pure silk and was lighter with nicer drape than cotton or polycotton. I can't remember who made it.

Edit: Cocoon, I think.

My wife had a (I think) Sea to Summit and it was great. It had some thicker rio-stop fibres in the material so even when it did start to go, it didn't rip apart as quickly as mine did.

We replaced it with another Sea to Summit and this one has small stretchy patches at the corners of the opening (where they all start to rip) so we have some confidence it'll last well again. My decathlon is starting to go too 😕

I've just bought an OEX microfibre polyester from Go Outdoors.  Its really nice, soft and comfortable- just as good as a silk one I used to have (but lost - gutted).  This one was only £20 or something

I've often thought of just wearing silk pyjamas, would that not work as well. And you'd look fabulous 😉

I actually DO wear silk boxers in my sleeping bag. I think that sleeping bag liners are the work of the devil.

Like @scottoutes I absolutely HATE sleeping bag liners. Every time I've tried I end up tied up in a knot in it and very uncomfortable

I've got a sub 100g Cocoon one and it's brilliant, thoroughly recommended.

What's that 600g one someone up there mentioned?! That's heavier than my -8°c rated sleeping bag!

I too hate liners. They just wrap around me as I roll around in the night...

That said, they have their place. We have a Sea to Summit Reactor Thermal and a silk one of indeterminate branding. On really hot nights I use just the Sea to Summit, no bag, and sometimes just the bag open and thrown over me.

Youngest_oab swore by the silk liner when traveling Japan in the summer...

I've got a LifeVenture (i think) one that came from Blacks maybe 20 years ago. It weighs next to nothing and takes up no appreciable space in the rucksack but does suffer from the cocooning problem a bit, I think partly because the top end is much bigger than any sleeping bag, so there's masses of spare material to get tangled up in. I treat it as the price to pay for not needing to wash a down bag every year or two.

Pyjamas (of whatever sort) achieve the same end and are less of an entanglement risk if you have to get out of your sleeping bag for a piss in the middle of the night 😂

<thread drift>

I'm lucky on that front, just turned 63 and it's not affecting me yet (famous last words, etc.) Even if the dog gets me up in the middle of the night, I can usually go straight back to bed. It'll come, I realise that. Rarely have anything to drink after about 8pm, mind.

Can you imagine  pitching up to a bothy in the Cairngorms, having an evening socialising with the other residents, and then getting changed into silk camo PJs before turning in? Its not something I'd relish explaining to a bunch of Aberdonians!

Well, exactly. You’d need a smoking jacket and slippers too, to be properly dressed.

+1 for the Cocoon. Mine's 135g according to the website. Certainly rolls small. I got it for bike packing when  some nights you're left ar not clean after a day riding and I was trying to stop packing up a nice Rab down bag.
