What bloody causes them?

cant turn my neck more than about 15 degrees to the right. Was fine when went to bed. I did have a (fairly tame) karate session last night, but no aches & pains afterwards. Hot shower and ibuprofen didnt fix it this morning and am now resiting the urge to google "local massage parlours" at work!

Usually its the build up of many things (sitting badly, injury, misaligned spine, sleeping in a bad way). I used to think it was all snake oil and people with bad backs / necks were weak. Until it happened to me. I needed lots of treatment to relieve the immediate "trauma". I now regularly see a chiropractor and I have much less issues like this.

Maybe so. But in general, I have less issues with my back and neck. I accept that it could be the result of another unrelated factor. However, in the case of the OP probably worth seeing someone who specialises in human musculoskeletal issues. Also, note that not all chiropractors are the same.

I'd agree some sort of treatment for muscles is a good idea. The 'massage' bit that chiropractics do that isn't cricking your neck is likely to be the bit that works.

I'd go to an osteopath, personally.
