We live in SE England but in quite an exposed location right at the topo of a short sharp hill so get some pretty strong winds.

Our old slate roof is on it's last legs so we'e in the process of getting quotes to get it reroofed and solar added.

Any things we should consider given the high winds?

Re the roof:
- Types of slate?
- Sizes of slates/overlaps?
- Any other considerations i shoudl be aware of?

Re the solar?
- Would in built solar panels be better for a exposed location?
- Any idea what the pros/cons of an inbuilt solar array are versus the standard bolt on?
- Any other considerations?

Thanks in advance

True story:

We had a small tornado come through our paddock many years ago.  It made a 4' hole through the hedge along the road, snapped 2 x 20' pine trees in half and picked up an 11' GRP dinghy I had sitting outside and deposited it in a neighbours field 100yds away having cleared a 7' hedge.

It passed over the stable block that has a pretty shonky slate roof - it took off about 10 slates and buried them in the asbestos cement roof of the barn (we got a new roof on the barn from that).

The solar panels on the stables were absolutely fine.

I think you're overthinking it.  Built in pv panels would look slicker but may be harder to fix if needed in the future (a house down the road has just had them fitted and they look pretty good but I would be concerned about interchangability)

Yes. Disadvantage is that they will run hotter and so less efficient.

A friend has jut put the in built panels in. They look really good. Main benefit is that they are the roof. No need for tiles on that bit and with a big array they might be a substantial chunk of the roof. Pretty easy to install to.

We've got standard bolt on panels in an exposed location, they're fine.

Amazes me how small the clamps are that hole the panels on, look very unsubstantial!
