You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Thanks to this thread, my wife's 50th birthday present to me is a trip to Skye. Hurrah.
We're away Mon-Fri, but taking a leisurely drive from / to Inverness airport that gives us 3 full days there. We'll probably spend the first and third days walking and want something less strenuous for the middle day. So I'm looking for 2 good walks and a more sedentary activity. We're staying in the North of the island about 4 miles from Uig, but will have a hire car so are ideally looking to see different aspects of the place.
Suggestions please. No biking unfortunately, as my wife more into a 5 mile pootle to the pub, and I won't have a bike anyway.
Sunset at Neist Point.
Swimming in the Fairy Pools.
Dinner at the Three Chimneys.
Talisker distillery tour.
What kind of walks are you looking for? Munros or something gentler?
Talisker distillery - Aha now you're talking.
As for walks we do 12-ish miles in the Black Mtns or Brecon Beacons fairly regularly, but maybe one stiffish walk and one 5 or 6 hr but gentler one.
If you're going to Talisker and like seafood, keep going past the distillery and up the hill to the Oyster Shack. Brilliant rustic lunch.
+1 for the Three Chimneys
A wee walk to The Lookout.
Kilt Rock.
Coral beach near Dunvegan.
Fairy Pools.
Raasay - Dun Caan and Calums Road.
Look at the Cuillin from Elgol - there are boat trips
The vivarium.
Go searching for dinosaur footprints
I'd have suggested the Portree pub crawl but it's really a weekend thing.
Another vote for lunch or dinner at the Three Chimneys.
Also one of my favourite things to do on Skye is to drive round the far north of the island, which will be ideal if you're staying in Uig. The drive is great, with lots to see on the way. We usually lunch at the Flodigarry Hotel when we do that trip and you can walk up to the Quiraing etc. There are other things to do on that loop as well - the Museum of Island Life for example.
wander into the Quirang. If you are super organised, a walk along the Trotternish ridge is excellent. Need to get bus / car logistics though. Walks from Glen Brittle into the Cuillin foothills would be great, Coire a Ghrundha or the like, Coire Lagan / Cioch, that sort of stuff.
Walks:
Into Coire Lagan from Glen Brittle.
The Quirang already suggested.
Bruach na Frithe is the only Munro that doesn't require a bit of scrambling.
Sgurr Na Banachdich can be done with no scrambling
Coire a Ghrundha
+1 A fine walk up to the loch and if the weather is good an easy scramble through big boulders onto the ridge between Sgurr Alasdair and Sgurr Dubh Mor for views.
Thanks for all the suggestions. Walking, eating, drinking, three of my favourite things. Really looking forward to it.
+1 Quiraing.
Also a wander around Old Man of Storr, fairly easily extended to Storr summit, if it's a nice day for fabulous views.
If you have any interest in wildlife, there are boat trips from Portree to see the local Sea Eagles and other stuff like dolphins, if you're lucky (MV Stardust). Try to take the first trip in the morning if you go.
agree with Ivorlot - the view from The Storr is wonderful. Looking down onto the Old Man, along the Trotternish, across to the mainland etc
Well worth the effort of walking up there
You could keep yourself busy for hours trying to match locations to films: Highlander, Stardust, Prometheus, the list is pretty long

True indeed, you can walk a llittle bit over towards the InnPin without too much trouble to get a closer look
Beinn na Caillich (Red Cuillin) is a great viewpoint for Bla Bheinn and the Cuillin ridge
