Evening all, looking into ditching sky and hoping to get some thoughts. I've been looking at NowTV and BT TV but was hoping some of you might have some experiences of the two of them and maybe any others.

just after basic stuff, kids and something like the sky entertainment package.

cheers in advance 🙂

Now TV. For us when we ditched sky. (Stick version) £19 to buy I think ?

Works fine.

We use it for all the free stuff mainly (BBC/ITV/CH4) and have the kids subscription which I think is £3/month.

I get Amazon Prime free with my health insurance and Netflix free with my mobile contract and we rarely use either tbh.

NowTV is great for the premium sky stuff, if you’ve got a smart TV with the app it’s even better, where I fell down was it’s been a real hassle trying to get normal telly through the aerial.

Got a free trial of Now TV, good for catching up on stuff, No ongoing obligation is good. Put the odd sports pack on for a week when there are games I want to watch, app via android is going a bit flakey for me but I assume the sticks are better.

Freesat (well you've already got the dish), plus Netflix, NowTv, Amazon Prime or whatever.

Netflix and Amazon video plus the free digital channels. I have NowTV but rarely use it.

Faultless so far, faster than the older NowTV box I had initially.

The interface is better than the app on a smart TV too (at least the one I have used) and is easier to navigate. And I like that the remote doesn’t need line of sight and has voice search.

Now TV.

Just don't let the subscription roll into monthly payments,  it's a fair bit cheaper to buy the NowTV passes.

£15 for 2 months Films or 3 month Entertainment.

We tend to buy a Movie pass for a couple of months and then cancel for a few months otherwise you tend to run out of decent stuff to watch.

I went from Sky to NowTV and am now back at Sky, didn't like the NowTV menu system, no free TV as aerial signal is woeful so had to rely on iplayer etc, also had multiple issues with pixelation, sound dropping, inability to pause and resume programmes so overall was disappointed, had my broadband with NowTV too so expected the streaming interface to work perfectly but no such luck, surprising really as never had an issue streaming 4k netflix content, only HD NowTV.

Again thanks for the replies.

The one sticking point for the boss as mentioned above is pausing and recording programs, I was thinking I could knock something up with a raspberry pi or resurrect some computer parts in a nice box but I'll need to look into that.

This might all be academic if when we cancel sky give us a deal to stay but it would have to be a very good deal.

You can get a Now TV box (as opposed to the Now TV stick) costs a bit more but allows you to do the pausing and rewinding bit to.

It worth keeping in mind that NowTV is a Sky product so it's never going to have the same functionality as Sky+ or Q, but then it's less than a tenner a month.

It needs a bit of a change of mindset, we rarely watch TV as it's broadcast at home. At first after a decade of Sky+ it took a while to get over the idea that you have to record things, you don't you just stream them when you want them. If you're worried about missing your favourite programme because you're used to them all being in the recorder you just add them to 'my shows' I think they call it.

Live TV is a bit of a drag, you can't pause / rewind it as there's now onboard storage, but if you wait 24 hours you can stream it, add free, rewind, fast forward, pause etc.

We stream everything now. No need to record things or have any storage etc.

Just needs a (slight) change of habit, rather than a change of what you actually Watch.
