Finally decided to ditch Sky for good.

Rang last night but lines closed at 9 after we'd been on hold for over 45 minutes.

Tried to do it via Live Chat this morning, but their chat client 'conveniently' won't connect (in any browser)...

Suppose email is the last resort, but their "it may take up to five days to receive a reply" disclaimer doesn't fill me with hope.

Any tips for actually getting them to accept our request to cancel our contract?

I cancelled with Sky last week, I used the live chat to arrange a call back as all the live chat agents were busy.

I dont think you can cancel on live chat, over the phone is the only option either via calling them or call back.

All I can say is that Mrs Jay rang them to cancel a few days ago and got straight through - keep trying I guess.

I suspect they might be busy, recent worrying economic news, coupled with recent price increases is probably enough to tip a decent number of people over to cancelling them.

You definitely can - I did it.

Just make sure when requesting the live chat that you select "new customer" or whatever it is rather than "existing customer" - you'll get connected straight away instead of all the chat agents being mysteriously "busy".

I cancelled on live chat then waited for the inevitable phonecall to beg me to comeback, the offer was good so I did.

Same here. Cancelled on live chat, then was immediately offered 50% off TV for 12 months via the green button. Held out a few weeks and was offered 50% off TV for 12 months, £50 cashback/credit all with no renewal of contract.

I got through to live chat to cancel the other day but ended up adjusting my package slightly (oo er!) and saving £35 a month. Only lost movies which I am not bothered about and then got a discount.

You can always try haggling the offer! Ended up with 60% discount, £100 cutback (with 1 year contract. Alarm set for 11 months to cancel again 🙂 )

Will keep trying then.

But definitely not accepting any sudden attractive offers. Done with them...

Try calling as soon as lines open in the morning. Not at lunch or in the eve.

Got straight through after work. They immediately offered a massive deal (£5 a month for our current package). Took great pleasure in turning it down.

We just cancelled the direct debit, they'll get the idea.

I wouldn't do that, you're just setting yourself up for grief and a hit to your credit rating. I can't say I had any trouble getting through to Sky customer service a few months back - I would say you're probably better off trying during the day rather than in the evening though.

I also cancelled by direct debit. It was in my ex's name, but I was making the payments. They wouldn't allow me to cancel, had to be her apparently, but not being in contact with her, I just stopped the payments. Thing is, I initially only wanted to change to my name and upgrade to HD, but they wouldn't do that, so I decided I'd had enough. Got a couple of letters after that, one being that they were going to cut me off (result) and the other that I owed them about £5, which I ignored. If the customer service had been better, I'd still probably be squandering £60/mth or whatever it is for the full package these days.

had to be her apparently
Aye, we're on that game - still married but whenever there's a problem and I phone up, they're all "computer says no" but when they want something out of her and she says I'd have to sort out the "technical" ( 🙄 ) stuff like a system reset, they're suddenly gagging for me

mostly I tell them to **** off or at least play hard to get for a while - in fact next time it happens I'll get them to agree some sort of full power of attorney over the contract and then cancel the ****er !

TBF they've probably had aggrieved exes cancelling contracts out of spite before.

Don't phone in the evening (when everyone else does). Phone first thing when their lines open.

Just hopped onto the cancellation rollercoaster via live chat.

We've currently only got TV with Sky and BB/Phone with BT.

I'm hoping they'll come back with a deal for all three, is this likely or do they just offer deals when you've already got BB with them?
