some dude just rang us up and said they were from sky tv and said our breakdown cover was up for renewel, and it expired today and it would cost 89 pounds a year for this...... i told her we never had a breakdown policy... my hubby got on the fone and asked her what make/model and type of sky package were running, and she said something completely different. and made a load of numbers up that wasnt even our policy...
perfect scam if you ask me...
alot of poor sods wud acknowledge this fone call and pay up....
grrrrrrrrrr
Yup, i have had this call before, they are scammers, they must get a certain percentage that take them up on it to make it worth their while.
trouble is tho id i took on this breakdown cover then range the real sky poeple up in the future and told them my sky was broken (they,d turn around to me and say 'im sorry madam your not covered by us"..... and there would be me arguing that i am ..... 89 quid down the drain...... as if we all havent enuff dosh to pay out for things without this kind of scam going on,,,, it makes me angry.....how do they get away with it ?
I had an emailed warning from sky themselves about these scams.
I've had similar calls in the past informing me that as I have now had my kit for a year the warranty will shortly expire and would I like to stump up for cover...
I politely decline and when who ever on the other asks the inevitable question
" What would you do if it brokedown ? "
I explain that i would ring up and ask to get it repaired free of charge, they then say .. NO we wouldn't do that .
My next statement seems to baffle them ...
If you won't repair it FOC then i'd just cancel the contract and move to cable "
I have never had to use this line yet but am fairly confident it will work, I pay Sky approx £80 amonth for the full works and I reckon they won't really want to lose customers like that... and if not then it's no problem to me ... I'll give cable a try 🙂
One things for sure i'm not buying any type of extended warranty
I have had the same bloke on the phone everyday this week asking me to pay the £89. Yesterday I told him that I didn't want the cover and he has stopped ringing!!
what did you tell him Monday & Tuesday, Shakey ?

Used to work for them. It will work. They will ty to sell you service call for £65 (years ago price) You say no, I'll go to cable. They will say you can have i half price, just this once. You say no again and they will say you can have it free.
My daughter got a call the day after she got her iphone from what she believed was Carphone Warehouse.
They said that they were calling in order to collect payment for the phone insurance - she duly paid up £80 via her debit card
Apparently places like Carphone Warehouse buy blocks of consecutive phone numbers so the scammers simply buy a sim & then speculatively call similar numbers knowing that anyone that answers has recently bought a phone
Ah now this starts to make sense, I keep getting calls from somebody about my Sky box. Couldn't understand as have never had Sky. Always just tell them to take a long walk off a short pier.
