It seems to me, in these days of self isolation, that skipping would be a good way to keep fitness up in the garden. So what skipping rope would STW recommend?

As with most things in life, ask yourself what would Rocky do?

Pigtails? And a lollipop in your mouth?

I mean, it's not a conventional way of getting exercise, but whatever works for you!

Mrs Lunge started CrossFit a year ago, skipping involved in this.
Based on her approach, you need to buy 4, maybe 5 different ropes of different types and ever increasing expense before finding one you like. Ideally you’ll also cut one of the ones the was any good too short and so have to buy it again.

I thought this thread was going to be another SRAM 12 speed drivetrain issue 🙂

Leather ones are the best. Need somethinng with a bit of weight to it, so buying cheap doesn’t usually work. I’d order from a martial arts supplier.

I skip a bit. I’m doing it more now because I can’t ride, as part of a simple circuit with a couple of different kettlebells and some body weight stuff. Add in an hour of yoga after and you have 2 hours of lockdown excercise which is really hard and needs hardly any equipment. Ive got an old heavy leather rope and it’s really hard on the shoulders which is good for me. I’ve even got an old sweater with the sleeves cut off at the shoulders and I put eye of the tiger on (not really).

A small child, usually female, to teach you.

Thanks everyone. I shall order a leather skip rope, a knackered cassette, wooly tank top, pigtails and a small child (female) to get started.

Started yesterday with a cheap BHF skipping rope that my wife borrowed from the school whilst she was babysitting key worker children in her holidays.

Bloody hell I am out of practice ... mind you I am 59 and a bit porky.
Seems like a good aerobic workout just hope I can get a lot better.

I’ve finally sussed jump roping, I bought mine from a boxing shop in central Birmingham. It’s a steel wire core with plastic over wooden handles heavy enough to keep momentum and not to lose concentration bare footed. If it hit’s your fit it hurts.

its pricey but the best rope i have ever used is the Crossrope. you get what you pay for and not all ropes are equal. they do some good instructional videos too, along with 'jump rope dudes' on the interTubes, it takes a little while to get good at it.

Leather good to learn with. Progress to wire.

If it's impacting your shoulders you're doing it worng.

Best starting without a rope to get used to bouncing.

Bloody hell what depth did you drag that out of? Probably nestled next to the rubber ball with the ring you stood and bounced on.
