Never really fancied walking it...but looking like that's on the agenda tomorrow.
Anyone done it?...just thinking of going up Ullock Pike than straight down into the Dog & Gun in Keswick.
Yes, Longside Edge makes the best of a bad job
Ullock Pike than straight down into the Dog & Gun in Keswick.
Exactly that a couple of times. Not a bad day out.
Take bike. Reverse route. Smile.
Park in Dodd wood. Up Ullock and down Carlside into top of Dodd.
Or drive a little further and scoot around the Coledale round.
I love Skiddaw.
My personal preference is to ride up to Dash falls and then follow the fence up to the top & ride down.
I hope to have my ashes scopped off the top when I die. 😀
Boxelders route would get my vote, I hate that climb up from Latrigg
Bugger that, have you seen the weather forecast?
We went up along Ullock Pike ridge exactly a week ago - most interesting ascent imo. Although in bad weather perhaps a little exposed.
Oh and the descent back to the start is dreary if you make the loop to the north via Cockup as we did...
the weather
Scattered thunderstorms and locally intense downpours will affect most parts, bringing a risk of hail and gusty winds. It should brighten up in the evening. Feeling warm and humid.
ENJOY 😉
Why Skiddaw. Go next door to Blencathra - up sharp down halls fell or up halls fell down doddick. Much better day out IMO
If you go up Skiddaw you'll get to the top, look down and wish you'd brought your bike!
Sounds like the weather is pretty crap up there today - low walk instead or better still have a wet ride.
Well I decided to go up Skiddaw on foot via Ullock Pike.
Amazing weather and excellent views made the effort worthwhile.
That has to be the best way up - was quite busy for a Friday and saw 3 bikers coming down Ullock Pike - walkers didn't seem too bothered about them being there - must admit it does look a great decent - will come back and do that at some point.
3 other bikers were on the summit. Came down the tourist path over Jenkin Hill...it's a stark contrast to the way up and probably the dullest way up/down a mountain there is - really wished I had my bike at that point so globalti you are dead right! Teamhurtmore - you're correct in saying Blencathra is better but I've done that before and wanted to do something new.
The beers and goulash in the Dog and Gun were heavenly and well earned 🙂
