Last time I was up there (a while ago admittedly), there was an arrangement with a pub in Threlkeld for parcels. The postman did occasionally used to visit - think it was once a week or so in summer on a little moped to the end of the fireroad and then walk the rest of the way.
In the days when it was run as a YHA hostel, the listing in the YHA guidebook advised you to allow 4 weeks for postal delivery!
It'd make an amazing getaway place although I think I'd fancy a helicopter (or a jetpack) for easy transit in and out...
