Hello All
I am considering doing a whole ski (snowboard) season in France, probably Morzine but haven't yet decided, could anyone direct me to websites/ companies that offer accommodation for the whole season?
Thank you in advance.
Another user here was on Snowheads recently discussing the same topic.
I would start there and also
Livetheseason.com
Depending on your plan / situation you may need a visa. You need to prove you have the cash to last a season if you aren’t planning to work.
Can I be the first to say, when can I visit?👍🤣
Edit. Based on last season I would be heading somewhere higher.
Stuff sometimes comes up on Morzine Crew on Facebook.
I did my season in British Columbia. Did a month road trip touring resorts starting in Whistler then took in Big White, Red Mountain, Whitewater, Kimberley and then stopped in Fernie. Did a few trips to Castle and Sunshine too but did three solid months in Fernie.
To be honest I’d do it again, no visa issues, got a small condo rental in Sparwood so a bit of a drive from Fernie each day but worked out so much cheaper.
Of course with the exponential rise in lift pass prices now in North America this wouldn’t be so easy now so maybe Europe would be better, maybe one of the smaller outlying places round Verbier would be good.
Ha, ha, think my season pass in 2006/7 cost less than €350!!
Ahhhh Red Mountain and Whitewater…. I could live in Nelson very easily.
The Ski host in Red Mtn gave me and my dad a private tour of the mine. It was ace!
Yeah, really liked Red and Whitewater @theDTs, both had the feel of a proper local ski hill, cheap tickets, no bullshit and some properly steep terrain if you wanted it. Same with Fernie, especially if you included the sidecountry. That was back in 2000 mind, so I’m sure a lot has changed since.
In Whitewater we rocked up on a Sat. Fresh 18”, me and my mate were queuing “euro” style and got taken to one side by a lady in her late 50’s who told us that wasn’t the done thing round here. She skied with us for the rest of the day. She was brilliant. So friendly.
That was me looking for advice over on snowheads. As above, Marcellus at livetheseason.com can help. Also try joining a Facebook group for the area you fancy, there are usually seasonnaire / resident / regular visitor groups where you can ask. Maybe ask the local tourist office, or contact a few estate agents too?
IIRC You’ll be limited to 90 days in 180 in the EU & no easy way to get a tourist visa to extend that period.
Praise be to Brexit…
Tourist visa is an option. You just need to do the paperwork and prove you don’t need to work, ie a bank statement with a pile of money in it.
My mate did need to drop his passport at the french embassy and go back to collect it in person though They refused to use the post or a courier. No idea if that’s still the case.
Also, if you are going to take a place for the season but only stay for 90 days, I think you could easily sublet Christmas/NY, Half Term and Easter weeks to someone like me who is restricted to school holidays! (For the right price obvs!)
Are you saying that if you have enough money you can get round the 90 day thing?
Yes, if you don’t need to work you can get a visa for longer. But you need to prove your ability to support yourself.
My mate did exactly this. Sadly he is now in a bit if a mental black hole and not speaking to any of his mates. I would ask him for more detail about how he did this but sadly I can’t. ☹️
He did a season in La Tania, went out in Dec ‘21. I skied with him in Feb and Easter he came back mid April. ‘22
That's great advice all, thank you. If I find myself with a spare bedspace I'll let you know.
Brexit was a really great idea wasn't it, in so many ways.
As above, local seasonnaire Facebook pages probably your best bet.
But don't go to Morzine. If there is any French resort that is fully feeling the wrath of Climate Change, it's Morzine.
