hi just back from a weeks skiing, I tend to ski one week a year and would class myself as a decent intermediate skier, ski all the pisted runs and some easier off piste. Have alsways hired boots and struggles to get a decent fit. I tried on some xpro 120 just before going away and they were a good fit but couldnt justify the cost for one week. Since arriving back I've been offered some x pro 130's used for 3 days for £100. I can get them moulded in the resort I go to for free, but just concerned that they will be too much boot for me stiffness and performance wise, I'm about 70kgs.
good buy or not?
130 is pretty stuff I'd agree but it varies hugely between manufacturers as well. What's the stiffness of the rentals?
Sweamrs skies a Nordica 110 as her race boit and she's 55kg. We're talking expert GS though.
I'm 80kg and ski a dalebello 110 at strong intermediate level. I did try some 130 and didn't like them. I don't like high speeds though.
Not sure how accurate these stiffness measurements are. My last pair of boots were 130 flex (hand-me-downs from a mate) and my current boots are flex 100 Salomon x pro. Can’t say i noticed a huge difference. They were different brands of boot so maybe there is some differences between manufacturers. I’d consider myself a strong intermediate skier and in theory 130’s are for advanced skiers so maybe I just wasn’t good enough to feel the benefit. My brother is a shit hot skier and has Salomon 130 flex boots, could be the xpro model too, and he loves them. So maybe just get them and see how you get on with them. If my experiences are anything to go by they probably won’t hinder you.
I have a pair. They are a stiff boot, so if you can ski groomed pistes all day it's fine. However, get them in variable conditions and they can bash you around, and I'm a good 10 or so kgs heavier than you.
Probably not a boot for an occasional skier in my opinion. I don't use them any more, opting for 110 flex Salomon boots.
