My son and I have 12 days off from 11th April and keen to get away somewhere. Skiing would be great as part of it. I'm aware of more snow sure resorts like Val Thorens but wondering about other options and he suggested Norway. Anyone any experience of skiing/exploring there? (I'm sure I've seen some posters from there on here).
I'd welcome ski ideas anywhere otherwise. We are trying to do it at relatively low cost so budget is important.
Hi from north sweden. You want lift assisted or touring? We go to Riksgränsen on the swedish/Norwegian border. The snow depth is currently 270cm. You can ski well into July.
Wot he said.... Riksgransen
I went in June and skied powder 3 days out of 7.
Also went (frozen) water-skiing on the lake with a hired skidoo. That was effing awesome.
2 days later when we went again after a warm spell.... not so much. The most scared I have ever been in my life feeling the back end of the skidoo wallowing slightly every now and again. Turning round and seeing a ribbon of clear blue water trailing out behind you.
Anyway, go to Riks.
Canada?
Season at Sunshine is expected to last until May 23rd
Thanks so far. Planning uplift but I fancy trying out some touring.
Depending on budget but Sunshine is a good option. Just got back from Mt Hood in Oregon who’s season usually runs to June. Their spring pass has just gone on sale for $240 which is a bloody bargain given I was paying $100 a day…
I'll be in st Anton then - skiing til it gets slushy and then sitting with feet up in the sun while the bbq is going in the afternoon.
I'd also throw Finnish Lapland into the mix. Levi usually has decent April snow plus fatbike trails, snow mobile touring etc..
I’ve been to the north (Tromsø, Lyngen, etc) twice and about to go again. Ski touring, though, nothing with lifts. You’d hate it after a couple of hours - so many mind boggling, jaw dropping, life changing views you have to stare at your skis or you’ll go mad.
Either that or the weather is ‘Scottish’ so you don’t have to worry about the views.
Thanks all I'm looking in to the suggestions.
Lyngen
Yup.

But I've always had a hankering to go to Riksgransen since

ummm... 1996!
26 years of thinking about it. Time passes, doesn't it?
