It all seems to be an unhappy combinations of multitudes of pop up windows that take ages to load, greyed out text and unresponsive forum links.

works as per usual on Win 10, try that.

Failing that, borrow Drac's ipad.

I'm using Safari on MacBook here - seems to be OK, it's mobile that's rubbish

I've tried to start a thread regarding this on a couple of occasions over the last few days, giving up each time as typing, page loading and general aggravation, life is too short but on this iPad 4th gen iOS 10.3.3, this site is hopeless to use, combined with rural broadband and I am losing the will to live.

It would seem that the ads load first and foremost and **** everything else, including site content, most of the time an eventual notice will appear telling me there was a problem loading the page and it's going to reload. Happen whether I'm logged in or not.

I was considering whether I do as Mary hinge and subscribe, but that feels like I'm rewarding bad behaviour and only some of the ads will disappear.

The new classifieds look good, don't **** it all up again please.

Same here.

I assumed the greying text was to “encourage” you to log in!

It’s great being asked to subscribe and to allow third parties to harvest your organs every 5 mins as well.  The little pop up ads on the mobile site are ace as well.

I’ve had the same issue over the last few days, when browsing without being logged in.

They all disappeared for me, on Windows 10 and Android. Assuming the 'bad behaviour' is not managing to keep adverts under control, rather than having them in the first place, I'm finding a lot of sites are now the same, local new sites being some of the worst. I suspect it takes quite a lot of coding to manage external advert feeds on multiple browsers, and that could be spend sorting out other issues.

If you're a [P] user, you won't get any adverts at all when logged in.

Non-P, if you're a heavy user of the site you're more likely to be served lower-quality ads.  If you're doing something 'clever' with cookies the same applies (this may also be true if you opt-out of ad tracking cookies, I'm speculating here but it wouldn't surprise me).

Safari and STW seem problematic generally.  I'd suggest a different browser if that's practical.

I'd guess that the greying out might be the GDPR plug-in on the wonk.

If you're running a 4-year old OS, all bets are off TBH.

@Cougar - my point was that running a 4-year old OS showed no problems. I know that it's like bringing a model-T Ford to a drag race but it simply doesn't have the oomph to run newer versions. The HW is still good and I've not filled the storage so why get rid of it just to have a new model?

What is odd (and I really can't explain it) is that there are virtually no adverts when using it. I'm not a [P] user and the version of Safari won't accept plugins so in theory I should be plagued by them. The only popup I get is when the 14 day login expires then an STW one appears suggesting that I become a registered user.

We've tracked the issue down. It's related to the GDPR popup advertising consent box. Our provider, Streamamp, have updated their code and it's causing this issue for Safari users on mobile right now. They are aware of it and are working on fixing it now.

The upshot of it is that for safari users it seems that no cookies are being set on your device, which means endless and annoying popups repeating on every page.

Sorry about this, but we'll have it fixed asap.

Sorry, yeah, I realised that.  I wasn't really replying directly to your comment, I should've been clearer.

What is odd (and I really can’t explain it) is that there are virtually no adverts when using it.

I'd guess that it's because the browser is simply too old to render modern code correctly.  I had a near-identical issue a couple of days ago.  Helping a friend having issues with a (actually fairly basic) web page, turned out that it wouldn't load properly on her old iPad but rendered perfectly on her newer iPhone.

Also annoying - being unlogged by STW then having a pop-up suggesting I subscribe.

Plus, having to wait for the adverts to decide how deep they're going to be. Just as I'm about to select a thread the whole list shifts.

Have similar issues on a Macbook here.

Why is it Chrome on a Mac seems to run twice as quickly as Safari?  Never any issues using Chrome....  lots of issues on Safari.

NB  I still love my Mac though!

Seems fixed for me. It was only ever a problem on iOS not MacOS for me.

Still unbearable for me, every time I change page or thread I get the pop up in the screen, valuing my privacy.

Then it crashes, reboots and flashes up again, requiring the “go to site” to be pressed.

I'm not an iUser, but I never really understood why anyone would use Safari by choice.  My (limited, granted) experience of it has not been positive.

I’ll answer that.

My experience of Safari is that it works fine, I have Chrome too but it's adds nothing of benefit.

I cant get past the singletrack privacy popup (wont let me click continue, unresponsive link) that blocks me every few seconds of browsing the forum.  Unless I quickly  login and enter a post/comment for some reason.  Logging in and just browsing sees the same popup.

ipad air, 10.2.1
