We have a pretty small house and a reasonable collection of bicycles.
I was thinking of a portable site cabin as a place to store a few bikes and also work on them and use as a workshop.
At work we have cabins that have heavy steel locking shutters and a steel door. Security seems pretty good. However they are mounted on little legs and seem to be a minimum hieght of 2.60m plus maybe jacking it up off the ground. As a temporary structure im limited by a hieght of 2.50m max unless i get planning permission.
So is it worth pursuing this idea by excavating a footprint and then pouring a concrete base? This would be have to be a drop of at least 10cm and maybe more to drop the height of the roof above ground level.
Is this a reasonable idea? Does anyone use a site cabin type building in this role in their garden?
If anyone has any observations or recommendations then please let me know.
Thanks
Ian
Have you checked the cost yet? A site cabins cost makes sense as a building that can be moved and reused. For a garden a) a timber shed will be cheaper b) more acceptable aesthetically.
Timber also seems a lot less secure for storing bikes in, hence the thoughts of a site cabin with the anti-vandal steel window shutters and outer door.
Although we would clad it with timber to stop it looking quite so awful
If you get on with your neighbours, who's going to measure it? Just mention to them you're thinking of getting a shed.
V good idea and one I’ve been looking into for someone. As you say they are well armoured and we were going to bat and cedar clad it.
