I currently have 2 bits of kitchen work top as desks in my study. One high level and one normal desk height. With a monitor on each I can switch between sitting and standing.

Would now like to rip this out and have a proper sit/stand desk. Any recommendations? Looking for a 1800mm length and 1200mm max height.

Thanks db

Ikea? Get a frame and stick what you like on it.

I have one at work not a clue on the make could probably find out Monday. I never use it to stand as if I stand I subconsciously stand to favour with more weight on one leg than equal weight and I also hunch over the desk.
I actually find I sit more properly in a chair and go for regular walkabouts though some seem to like the sit/stand desk a lot.

I have an IKEA electric one at home - it’s great: easy to use and enough range of motion for a 6ft person.

Against my better judgement and due to my back being rubbish - I got one from IKEA and it's been fantastic. My back after years of trouble is almost... Almost normal.

I actually prefer standing up now!

I went for the more expensive IKEA model and various accessories. 10 year warranty on motor.

The bench was actually 1600mmx800mm, so might not quite be big enough for you but you could get your own top for it? It's two separate items anyway.

You get an app to define different heights.

I also got the Trollscandi seat which is fantastic. Beats the pants out of ergonomic chairs.

All this has been one of my favourite purchase of last year.

I am sat at an Ikea one as I type. Not the fancy pants electric one like others have but the windy handle one. I don't use it much but my other half does as she works from home, she says it makes a huge difference especially when she is doing an 8 hour shift (she works online and has to be consistently active). I think it was about £160, would have loved an electric one but I think they are getting on for 3 times that price.

Just looked £215 https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/skarsta-desk-sit-stand-white-s89324812/

£500 notes for the motor one if I remember correctly.

Which is still reasonable. Proper ones are upwards of a thousand - with more robust motors etc.

I was impressed not being an IKEA fan. Awful place.

But it solved my problems.

I have a Humanscale float, the counterbalance mechanism works really well and makes height adjustment effortless. I would recommend it.

What about keeping your current desk and digging a hole under your chair?

Move the chair and stand in the hole when you want the higher desk.

FWIW, I’ll chuck another positive vote in for the electric IKEA uppy-downy desk. 3 years in and all good so far, could be a another 6” higher for me, but good enough. Sometimes the motors have a wee wobble, but it always sorts itself out.

Great desk, and love standing to work, esp doing calls.

Rather than sitting on a chair, I got a ‘wobbly stool’ also from Ikea.

If you want to reuse your existing desktop you can buy these as frame only:

I got a Furna E2 a few years ago and fitted a section of kitchen worktop to it. It's been very reliable, and the controls have a memory feature, so you can save your preferred heights if you regularly switch between sitting and standing.
