Not that I approve of honours conferred by royalty but in the absence of anything else...

I read recently about his actions in the aftermath of Hillsborough. Lots of the players attended funerals, visited families etc but most of them only managed several each - they were just too overwhelmed by it all. Kenny attended every funeral he possibly could and visited every family he possibly could - and while he didn’ty personally lose anyone himself, that must have been a hell of a task for someone who just wanted to manage his football team. Nobody realised the turmoil he was going through when he unexpectedly resigned in ‘91

For that alone, he deserves any honour that the country wishes to bestow upon him.

DD - add to that the work he does for his wife's breast cancer charity; c£10 million raised to date. A modest bloke with much he could shout about - but doesn't.

One of my sporting heroes. I grew up a Liverpool fan and Kenny is not only the greatest player to ever play for the club, he's also a true hero off the field.

As others have said,  I don't like the honours system but if anyone deserves it it's Kenny Dalglish.

I’m not a football fan, but I know a little of Dalgleish’s work. +2 here.

Ah.. I see.

Well, more deserving than many then.

Sounds like a decent human being.

I can barely imagine the grief he must have felt attending all those funerals, and offering his support to all those families, which I’m sure was an enormous help to them all.

The man is an absolute legend in so many ways. He’s exactly the type of person who should be receiving public recognition. Thoroughly deserved!

Thoroughly deserved. Sporting hero plus a genuinely lovely man. He's on my very short list of people I would love to meet.

Brilliant to see him getting this. He was a massive hero of mine as a boy, and has proven to be worthy af that admiration ever since really. I was Six when this picture was taken, and I had it on my bedroom wall (or at least a very similar one) Legend.
