😀

Is mcmoonter still about? Not seen any posts from him for ages.
Also Greybeard as I owe him at least a pint for solving my hot water issue via this very forum.
And WCA just because it's not to know exactly what's going to happen at any given moment

Fair point.

I feel I owe TiRed a pint for his excellent work this last year, as well as be interesting to learn about his cycling past.

Bez would be nice to hear in person, has some well informed opinion on wider cycling.

Perchy just to see if he's as funny in real life 😄

I've had a beer with Binners, and WCA, and a cup of tea with Stoner.

I'd have a beer with Perchy, but I think the sexual tension might make it a bit awkward.

I’d like to buy Gnusmas a drink. I’d settle for anyone though. Would be good to meet some of you reprobates in person. Then again as per fasthaggis, it might destroy my mental image of some of you.

DesB, Chestrockwell and Waderider. They have all been rude to me over the years and I want to see if they are like it in real life. We will all either get along or if not we could take it outside and have one of those embarrassing middle age fights, get arrested and have to explain to our other halfs. STW night out - what could possibly go wrong.😁

Edit - rOcEtdOg would be a possibility - I’m sure I saw you (distinctive beard) in Arrow Valley last year but Micro was running in the other direction so couldn’t go over to speak.

I could barely sleep when he was doing his bike packing blogs. I’d like more stories.

That bloke (badger?) who threatened to sue people about the pic of him messing up a tubeless tyre.

I’d buy the mods a pint.

Gnusmas, just because.

Anyone who knows more about looking after a bike than me (eg anyone) so I could ask daft questions.

I’d love to catch up again with Chris Hadaway (troute lights)

I met him a few of times the last to pick up the light he made for me.

The drink of choice Morehouses Blond Witch.

Is there anything better that leaning on a bar with a good beer and talking idle chat.

Happy Trails

I'm not really a pub goer but after this shit show I'll be going to one and having a nice contemplative solitary pint no chatting allowed.

It'd be interesting to meet a few of the Tweed valley neighbours though.

Seeing as we’ve had so much time on our hands and I’m really, really missing our Monday Night Pub Rides, I’ve devised my perfect STW pub outing, complete with venue

Ahem....

Firstly, it’s an open invitation. The more the merrier. Too many interesting people on here to restrict numbers. However, attendance will be compulsory for everyone who regularly chips in on both the politics and football threads. This will allow for peak STW grumpy, opinionated rambling.

Location: I get to show you all around my local trails in Rammy, where we’ll get some miles in at a social pace, then finish on the descent through Redisher Woods to finish at the Hare and Hounds in Holcombe Brook.

This venue ticks all the boxes: bike-friendly, massive beer garden, big selection of beers, crisps and nuts, Sky Sports.

Timing: ideally a Sunday where we can finish just as a couple of big footy games are about to kick off. Ideally one should be Man Yoo v the scousers. This will allow for maximum piss-taking and arguing

Actually.... once we’re back to normality, I’m going to organise this

Who’s in?

Cougar, maccruiskeen and bearnecessities, all of whom are consistently funnier than I’ll ever be. They just don’t show off about it all the time.

I’d be a massive disappointment in real life....except to IHN obviously. He’d be well satisfied 😉

I’d take binners out for a 16” tandoori munchie box and a glass bottle of Irn Bru.

Cougar, maccruiskeen and bearnecessities,

Now that would be good fun. Bear's the only forumite (who I didn't already know) who I've met in real life - he came out to a day at the racing at Manchester Velodrome with me and my mum. He's an absolute gent.

I’d take binners out for a 16” tandoori munchie box and a glass bottle of Irn Bru.

If its a pub the serves 'pies' that are really stew with a hat..... things could turn ugly.

If only there was an event where mountain bikers could meet up, ride around a bit doing serious and silly competitions and the kick back with a few beers listening to some great live bands playing on stage.

Ideally there would be a mix of camping, log cabins or you could bring your caravan and it would have to be somewhere scenic like the middle of the New Forest.

Can anyone think of how such a thing might happen?

It was cancelled last year for some strange reason but it planned to go ahead this year and I will be there so anyone who had me on their list come to the Big Bike Bash at the end of August!

Once we’re back to something resembling normality, hopefully on dry dusty summer trails, I’ll definitely be organising a forum ride then.

Out on our great local trails, then finishing here to sit out in the beer garden and talk bollocks with you lot

Binners because I think he needs a Pint in a Pub, and I mean needs.

Scotroutes and Metalheart for the same reason Colin gave, and I suspect @Metalheart has had his penchant for being relentlessly sarcastic curtailed over the last year.

Id also like to get Perchy, TJ, Big and Daft, and Chewk together in one place, just to see how that diversity would play out.

Be good to have a beer with @bearnecessities too

I’d love to catch up again with Chris Hadaway (troute lights)

Troutie passed away last year I'm afraid mate... Was a thread on here expressing condolences a while back (can't find it right now).

I probably owe SSStu a pint... Not sure he realises it, but his incessant targeted trolling of me 3/4 years back helped me no end customer wise (still had my bike shop back then), had so many enquiries that turned into sales off the back of this! 😉

Northwind... One of the few people I've not met yet off here that I have felt some kind of cameraderie for. Plus, it would mean I'd be in Scotland to have a beer with him, which is a bonus.

Pepper, Salsaboy, psling et al... But it would have to be in a dingy "locals only" kinda pub in the Forest of Dean again, for posterity... 😂 Sooooo many memories from the early days of this forum!

Mattjg... Having bought a bike off me years ago, we only finally met recently (socially distanced!), and we are definitely long overdue a pint together!

Or quite frankly, as Rocketdog put... Anyone as it would mean we're allowed to go to a pub again!

TJ, always seems like a lovely if slightly argumentative fella. And he dropped me a DM when I was struggling a few months back which was lovely of him.

Houns, as I can’t work it how our paths haven’t crossed anyway. We live in the same small town for a start.

But as above, there are very few bag eggs here and a shared love of bikes and beer means I’d happily enjoy a pint with the vast majority of you.

TJ is a top chap. Spent a few happy hours with him and several others pushing BMWs up a snow covered access road after a bike race. Shame he couldn't hang around for a pint as we had a cracking night at The Church afterwards.

My wish to share a beer with Chris was a reflection that he is no longer with us.

I met him a couple of times and at a singletrack event in Rossendale as well as I stated he made my light which I still use.

I wanted to resurrect my light and tried to connect with him as I had been off the site and off the radar for a number of years.

Eventually I got in touch with Mark at MTB Batteries and he told me about his sad loss.

As some others have said it would be great to hook up the majority on here.

Binners, if there is room for “the slow lad at the back” I’m up for the Rammy ride/drink.

I’ll be doing my usual General Melchet routine and ‘leading’ from the rear, so you can join me in my traditional ‘tail gunner’ position

I ‘guide’ rides by shouting instructions at riders disappearing into the distance half a mile in front of me, which they ignore and get lost.

Apart from the last descent to the pub, at which point I suddenly become the fastest rider on the planet 😃

Ahh, are we all having a love-in? Why not, there isn't much else to do and there are some proper interesting/kind/funny people here.

Maccruiskeen is one of the nicest people I've ever met though, and his Mum, and it was a night to remember. Well, if I could remember it; I never did find my wallet or fart the same again.

And another shout for the forum mascot/political pacifist that is Binners. Only time I met him he was slightly pissed, natch, but a clearly hospitable, considerate and decent type. A proper northerner. He also did a commission for me recently which nearly went a bit south on the timings front (it was a gift for the OH's birthday) because of a genuine misunderstanding - yet he pulled out all the stops (and considerable additional time & expense) to make sure things got sorted. Just a lovely thing to do.

I'd also actually quite like to meet Mark & the other people that make this weird place tick*

Advert for Binners, because I know he tends to shy away from self-promotion.

[img] [/img]

*I wouldn't though, I'm as antisocial as they bloody come, but I like his grumpiness and their writing style. Hannah's recent E-bike article was lovely 🙂

TL;DR, there are too many good folk on here to list and I reckon we would go out of our way to help either one of us, even if it involved <shudder> socialising.

Me and Daz will spend all day talking about politics and Brexit on here, but in real life, in all the years I’ve been riding with him, and during many, many post-ride pints we have never ever mentioned either. Nor will we 😃

I have actually met, ridden with and had a beer with a load of folk from here. Many years ago I organised a Quantocks ride where a few folk turned up and Sharki acted as our guide. another occasion Met up with the Binners and other assorted southerners at rivi for a day out - with both beer and cake. there was the STW tandem weekend in North Yorks. Met ton for a day ride in the Borders and then the touring weekend he organised. Then there was the old TBC wed night rides which were good fun and a few other days out around the place
