My wife is 50 in February. For years we've stayed in the Britannia Inn in Elterwater, partly so we can use the Langdales Spa as part of the deal. Big Walk, bit of Spa, pub, everyone is happy. This year our daughter is coming so we need a lodge as opposed to hotel room. We've checked the Langdales and its £1200 for 4 nights- which feels like a massive Lake District Premium.
So where else in the North might we get something similar. Dales, Peaks Nortumbria, even Borders. Lodge plus some nice pool/sauna. A bit of walking and bike riding for me? Or cottages that have access to a nice hotel pool as part of the deal. Does anyone have a favorite place they have done something similar?
Any ideas most welcome.
Dont know about lodges but Slaley hall (Northumberland - just over the border from co. Durham in the N pennines) is super nice, and they're having a sale right now. They have suites that feature a seperate bedroom so would work for you and daughter potentially, dinner and breakfast inc. is 200 a night at the mo.
Langdale has always been on the dear side. But from what my wife has paid in the past 4 nights for 3 people in a decent Spa for £1200 doesn't sound too bad!
And if you already like it that goes a long way to a relaxing break.
Spas can be variable in what they offer (not that I've ever been!).
How old is your daughter too? Most won't take under 18s.
https://www.crieffhydro.com/ - has lodges as well as hotel rooms, plus a lot of activities and spa-ish type stuff.
Are you taking your bike? There are a few trails round Crieff Hydro so you can ride from the door & you're only 10 minutes from Comrie Croft.
There are a few Munro's nearby, but the weather might be a bit unpredictable for a family walk in Febuary.
Might be cheaper in Budapest.
Loose Hill House in Hope have family rooms, been a few times and its always been first class, great riding and walking from the door.

Thanks everyone for the ideas and for taking the time to respond. Much appreciated
Thanks everyone good points. £1200 might be ok I agree for a decent place- and we know and love it. Daughter is 16 so thats relevant too and Budapest might be cheaper. I still think that Paris Eurostar is worth a look for that price 🙂 Thanks for the suggestions
Rudding Park just south of Harrogate have lodges/cottages. It'll be pricy too, spas must be paying a fortune in gas bills this year.
Coniston Hall Hotel just on the edge of the Dales (not far from Skipton)

If you want proper northern grimness (outside the spa) get thee to Titanic Spa int'uddersfield. Some decent real ale pubs within walking distance
