Hello.
I am able to ship 8 cm3 for our relocation but can only buy 100x50x50cm boxes.
How many of these boxes make 8cm3?
Thanks a lot
24.
unless you actually mean 8 cm3, in which case, none.
8cm^3?
I think your units are wrong. Do you mean m^3?
On that basis your 1x0.5x0.5 box is 0.25m^3 so 8/0.25=32 boxes
Assuming you mean 8m3. 8 cm3 is about the size of a matchbox*
Each box is 0.25m3 so 32 in total.
It's no wonder kids leave school unable to count properly if this is the standard of the teachers 😉
* a really small one
I wish people hadn't pointed out the units issue.
"No love, the STW forum says 32 match boxes is all we can take with us. We'll just have to pack carefully."
Ah yeah. I can’t manage 4x8 this morning...
You should get 2048 of those boxes in an 8 meter cube...
Come guys he clearly works for Amazon.
32 but are your boxes going inside a shipping/storage container the size of that will determine number and size of boxes possible? it doesnt sound like a lot of space, sat in 8.5m3 office at moment is it just clothing and household goods?
good post for National Numberacy Day 🙂

Hang on, I think see the confusion in the OP. The cm in "8 cm3" is supposed to mean Cubic Metres rather than centimetres, isn't it.
8 cubic metres and 8 metres cubed are different things. 8 cubic metres (8m³) is 2m x 2m x 2m; 8 metres cubed is 8 x 8 x 8.
So if you've got boxes 1 x 0.5 x 0.5 metres in a space 2 x 2 x 2 (assuming a cube, I doubt it matters in practice), they'd fit two end-to-end, four deep and four tall, for 32 as the others have said.
it doesnt sound like a lot of space
Indeed. By comparison, a short wheelbase Transit's cargo bay is about 10m³.
Relocating overseas maybe?

Then that would be 8 cubic metres cubed then
That's quite a lot of matchboxes.
The answer is 43 always. Except when it is not, then the answer is baby robins weeing in Roger Moores Sick! bombers.
Relocating overseas maybe?
Relocating back to the UK from the Far East to start teacher training IIRC.
I have detailed files.
I have detailed files.
8 cm3 worth of them?
8m^3 would be roughly the equivalent of 1/4 of a TEU.
8^3m^3 would be 512m^3 which is roughly 18FEU or 36TEU, the volume of several terraced houses or in other words a LOT
8 cm3 worth of them?
Yep. Keep them in a matchbox.
perchy - are the files compressed?

If you have 8 cubic meters of stuff and 32 boxes with a total capacity of 8 cubic meters then every box will have to be completely full with no spare space to fit everything in. And is that the external dimensions of the boxes as that won't tell you what they'll hold.
Simple solution is the single matchbox and burn the lot.
Pay a company to scan the files and put all the data in the cloud!
I didn't realise people still had files, I've heard of shipping container going overboard - I wouldn't be trusting them to get here safely if they are important to you.
Why is the op bringing 400 000 matchboxes are they for perchys files? its all getting a bit confusing. 1 matchbox being approx .00002 m3

I don't think clouds are any drier than the sea to be honest and I don't fancy trying to recognise a particular cloud after its travelled half way round the world either.
Here are some of my files that I use for detailing

Thanks.
Yes, cubic metres. Some of the people I've been dealing with say M3, some say CBM (cubic metres) ... Confusing.
@perchy - nearly. I'm a qualified teacher (not maths) now. Moving from Phuket to Riyadh.
8 cubic metres is only toys, clothing, little bit of kitchen wares, some assorted crap and 2 bikes. No furniture or other bulky stuff.
Having made up 4 100x50x50cm boxes and stacked them, it seems like a lot.
We're moving in to a fully furnished place - even down to towels and linens - so can travel light.
Thanks again
Stay tuned for my 'what fatbike for the desert' thread 🙂
