I usually use loose tea for a cuppa these days. Got one of those one-cup things like this:

It works OK, but I get bits in my tea, particularly with very fine tea like rooibos. Anything better out there? (And no, don't suggest teabags).

I wonder if there's a market for sonething very much like a pot for brewing tea in... :p

If you're suggesting a tea pot, yes I have one of them 🙂

Want something that I can just use to make a single cup, then dump the leaves and rinse under the tap for the next one, rather than a pot full of leaves that needs cleaning out (and pre-heating so you don't end up with lukewarm tea).

I use one of these Finum brewing baskets. It is a pretty fine mesh, seems to keep all of the tea leaves in. Also works nicely for coffee.

Same company, different product.

I have a one-cup and a two-cup version, they're great. Unlike a regular teapot you can 'switch off' the brewing so that you don't end up with a stewed brew. You can dump the leaves out of the basket and rinse, and it's pretty thin so doesn't leach all the heat away like a conventional teapot.

TBH though, half the time I'll just dump loose leaves directly into the mug. That's how my grandparents made tea, it was years before I discovered it wasn't the norm everywhere.

My missus just bought one of these:

I think she's trying to find a tea-making counter to either the Airopress or my Minipresso...

Unlike a regular teapot you can ‘switch off’ the brewing so that you don’t end up with a stewed brew.

Without wishing to appear ungrateful for the advice, the one CraigW and WBC recommended has that function: you take it out of the cup.

Also (and admittedly this wan't part of my original spec) it needs to be cheap enough that I can buy a 2 or 3 for making different types of tea at the same time, which the brewing basket is.

You're not a civil service IT contracts man are you? That's some serious mission creep from the first request! 🙂

These.

And likely to fit your revised budgetary requirements. I use something similar that came with a posh mug from T2tea and it's brill, gets used about five times a day.

All the way from Shenzhen though so you'd better not be in a rush.

No idea about your question, but your thread title is a fine example of an otherwise tired genre. Good job!

Haha! It's more that I couldn't imagine anyone spending more than a fiver to solve such a simple problem I guess, but that was naive.

The first suggestion fits the (un)specification perfectly and my local coffee roasters/tea blenders have them on their website so I'll go and see if they have them on their market stall.

😀 Agree it's tired but on this occasion thought it was acceptable.

Got one from the local blenders' market stall for a fiver and it's exactly what I was after. Will go back and get at least another one. Don't know why I faffed about for so long with the thing in my OP. Thanks!
