It's rammed full of northern folk here so I fully expect lots of great authentic guidance.
Kids like this when we get from the local bakery, it's home made and tasty, so we want to try and replicate.
I have duckduckgo-ed and there are lots of versions, but its nice to go on recommendation, so who has the best recipe they would like to share?
For a start it’s Bakewell Pudding. Go to Bakewell and ask for a Bakewell Tart and you’ll be met with the silent treatment 😀
We had a bakewell pudding on holiday in the peaks in 2018, wasn't as popular as our local bakewell tart.
....and continuing the theme of positive, constructive posts, Bakewell isn't very grim and northern either
But this recipe works well, I find, though I use much less almond essence than recommended
1. Make Bakewell Pudding/Tart.
2. Give to dog/hens/pigs
Vile things.

Oh yes we loved the whole area, planning to go back.
I got told in the bakers in the middle of Bakewell in no uncertain terms. "Mr Kipling makes Bakewell tarts, here we make Bakewell puddings!"
Traditional Bakewell tarts puddings aren't all that nice anyway. The evolved tart with icing and cherry on top are much nicer and have taken over as my cake of choice!
I've had a bakewell pudding in Bakewell, it was meh.
I had cherry-bakewell tart from the Blue Egg Cafe in Essex, it was incredible. Just thinking about it now makes me hungry. Oh my!
yes we are all in agreement, but where are your recipies????
yes we are all in agreement
No we're bloody not; traditional Bakewell puddings are bloody lovely, those up there who say different are clearly massive idiots.
Anyone who thinks that Bakewell tarts are superior to puddings, is wrong and would probably be a Donald Trump voter.
When I said we, I was talking to those of us that prefer tart.
I can't agree that icing and cherries bring anything at all to the Bakewell experience.

+potato
Never had a bakewell udding / tart.
My only experience is that worked in Bakewell a few years ago doing some rock stabilisation works on teh A6, we got drunk everynight, one guy married the woman behind the bar, another of our team kept bringing some lassie back to our twin room.....luckily they failed coitus on multiple occasions.
The wife baked a cherry and almond cake at the weekend. This is now the cake du jour and knocks any Bakewell tart/pudding into a cocked hat - specially the Kipling muck...
(Cherry) Bakewell Tart/Pudding are all amazing. Wonders of the modern world. In fact cake is amazing.
One of these put in a brief appearance in our house at the weekend:

Very tasty. Hot obviously.

Well clearly you have no idea whatsover!

Who needs recipes when you can buy them from a decent Baker? However, this looks a good start!:
