... and I mean simple. One for the tiny Gym where I do Spin class needs something that shows the classes and special events, plus easy to update pages on news/charges/etc. And another one for me just so if anyone accidently clicks on the website on my business cards, they get to see something 😉

I've used wordpress lots but only occasionally hacking about with the code. I can host php/sql etc without too much trouble and I used to call IT my main profession until a few years ago so I can find my way around standard technical stuff.

One of my domains is with Heart Internet and their web building stuff appears to have been written in 1998 and then abandoned. They do provide a free copy of Serif webplus tho.

So I can have a play with that, just host some new wordpress sites (few years ago I bought some of the professional templates for another project and they were pretty good I thought) or use something else.

It needs to be cheap to run, easy to change and won't require anything in the way of user interaction really. No logins, no shopping, yes we're talking electronic brochure-ware. It's the future 😉

I think the answer is probably wordpress but before I get into it, any other options?

Yeah - use WordPress but don't hack any of the code.

That's what I wanted to hear. As part of my domain hosting, I get create an SQL instance and PHP 5.3 is running in the environment. Should be a piece of cake to load wordpress onto there and find a theme.

Although if my 20+ years in IT are of any relevance, I expect it to be a right pain the rear.... 😉

Most hosting packages have one click install for stuff like Wordpress or Joomla.

And yeah Wordpress sounds perfect for what you need.

Blimey I take it back, there's a CGI script and it's done. I've been putting this off for ages thinking it'd be too much like hard work. Right time to write some [s]lies[/s] words

The link from 'how to install wordpress' returned this:

When did that happen? by Alex Leigh, on Flickr

And that's not the whole page! I spy a web calender on there which should make the gym thing pretty easy. I also saw drupel which gave me terrible flashbacks to something I did as a favour a few years ago. Days of my life I'll never get back!

Wordpress - super simple. No need to hack, loads of options and support out there.

Mine - www.unsponsored.co.uk

Thanks- liked both the sites. Somewhat different 🙂 The work one will be pretty boring with just the services for the stuff I do and some random blog posts (think there's a linkedin plug in so you can autopublish?) but for the gym one, seems like there's lots of themes now that have some nice image integration.

Always preferred Joomla for CMS but like anything takes a bit of time upfront get used to.

Then again if it's that simple whats wrong with a bit of good old fashioned html and CSS. Flash? 😈
