am listening to some of their music again now.
one of the best bands to have come out of this small isle imho.
and of course this to finish (sighs at thoughts of molly ringwald 😀
great band.
Agreed. I have always been surprised by how few people talk about them this way.
Agreed, Great sounds.
Mandela Day.
Reel to Reel Cacophony is a great album.
One of my favourite bands. Their first five albums are their best. At the time I was dancing to them in clubs in the 80's I don't think I realised how good they were but re-listening those albums recently there's some strong innovative material there. They always had their own sound too. I was lucky enough to see them live when they were at the height of their powers in the 80's and again during the recent greatest hits tour. New Gold Dream is IMHO their best album.
Lost their way musically when they went stadium rock but finally got it together again with Graffitti Soul.
I got into them as all the older boys (who we thought were cool) listrned to Simple Minds.
They used to fill stadiums..and now? 🙁
Agreed. I find Live in the city of light to be one of their best albums as it has so much energy to the songs.
Together with Depeche mode, INXS and (don't laugh) Erasure they are amongst my faves.
...and now? Apparently still touring. Obviously not as good now as in their hayday, but I'm seeing them with some old university friends at the O2 this autumn! Bit of a nostalgia fest!
Coincidentally, was just looking at my vinyl albums the other day and thought, hmm 4 Simple Minds albums, 3 of those I'd happily bin. Empires & Dance is the only good one.
Pair of ruthless chums keeping all the money to themselves and treating everybody else like the hired hand whilst warbling a load of nonsense about "sanctifying yourself" and the like.
I never liked them when they were big but I really like them now. Saw them live last year and they were excellent.
Funny that they were constantly referred to as U3uponthedowns - Member They always had their own sound too.
I've always quite liked Simple Minds, supposed to be very good live.
When I was at school in the 80s they were always talked about in the same breath as U2, funny how things turn out.
Spooky, I listened to several of their albums on my ride yesterday after not listening to them for ages. Excellent band.

Yes, people have finally realised how bad U2 are 🙂
I have long tried to forget my teens and the ridicule from my friends with my fascination with Jim and Charlie, evening watching the Live in the city of lights tour in 87 a true pop/rock band. Once upon a time has to be in the changer at all times in the car
Brings back strong memories of Corfu 86 and 87, one of my townie mates with no taste in music insisted on playing them constantly on those holidays, along with tears for fears, U2 and prince ffs!.
