I had three paintings on the office wall at home and I wanted to add a fourth. That is all. How difficult can it be?

Well, to get the spacing right I had to move the existing hooks and there were already a couple of old holes in the wall so perhaps a quick splodge of Polyfilla to cover those

Obviously I will need to paint over that and clean white paint patches will look wrong. so I will have to paint the whole wall.

And I can't have just one clean wall so will need to paint all walls and I have gone off white so a bit of colour would be better.

And if we are painting the room we will need to do the gloss work as well.

And that carpet looks absolutely ruined where the office chair is so we will have to replace it with wood.

I'm in exactly the same place having just touched up a bit of gloss and realised it made the rest of it look like a thirty a day smoker's living room. Now hoping the little bit of emulsion I touched up dries to the right colour before I have to paint the whole wall.

If you leave it long enough you'll stop seeing these 'issues'! 🙂

My reverb was returning very slowly, so I gave it a bleed. While testing it I noticed that there was a bit of play in the suspension linkage, so I bought a set of extractors and presses, a set of bearings and replaced them all (11 bearings in total). When checking to see if everything has gone back together right, I noticed some play in the pressfit BB, so I bought a new BB and fitted that (already had the extractor and press for that). Went for a ride and noticed that the bike still felt a bit baggy - ah, that would be the headset bearings. Replaced those and it now feels pretty good!

There are two types of people in the world, and I am one of these!

I wanted a new gas fire in the living room.

To replace the fire, I'd have to replace the back boiler because they're two halves of the same system.

If I replace the boiler, the existing "one pipe" system won't be compatible so I'll have to replace the plumbing.

Whilst everything is in bits, I should really get that long-overdue rewire done.

That just leaves me with an entire house to plaster and redecorate.

I wanted a new gas fire. I moved house.

Replacing architraves and skirting.

Before you know it, large bits of plasterwork that were held in place start breaking off and the job now entails replastering.

My missis brought home some nice metal bath/basin plugs once. They came with new wastes, so it seemed a shame not to fit those. Which snowballed into new flooring and a full retile and decorate.

A couple of weeks later, as I was finally tidying away all my tools I dropped a cold chisel in the basin and smashed it. 😱

My son's been riding his Trek Remedy quite violently since taking it to Uni with him and joining the Uni riding club.
He brings it back with him over Christmas so the rear wheel I built for him can be retensioned and the tyre on it can be replaced as he's punctured it at the bead. (this could be a looooong post!)
So I stick the wheel in the stand and it's wobbly, has a couple of dings... true wheel, order ding straightening tool, get the dings out, stick my only decent 27.5 tyre on it... put it on the bike, the tyre's too fat. Order new tyre.
While I'm there check the brakes. Rear needs a bleed and has that Avid return spring issue.. order lever rebuild kit. When that arrives, taking apart the lever... what a job! Get it done though!
Can we put some bottomless tokens in the fork and shock?
Ok, order the kit boy, and a service kit for the rear as it's never had a service.
Undo the bolts to remove the shock. The bolt comes away about 4mm long.. the rest of it left inside the pin.
Track down a pin & bolt, much research to find the one required.. There's 1 for sale on ebay! Order it
Service kit turns up - it's the parts for a Super Deluxe and doesn't include the Deluxe stuff...
I'll do the fork, actually had a replacement air-spring for it. That job goes ok.
Long story short(ish). The day before he goes back to uni everything is done.
I've had to buy
1 rear tyre
Long nose circlip pliers
RS Deluxe service kit
RS greases and lubes of various persuasions
Suspension trunion pin and bolt hardware
Strap wrench
Schraeder valve core remover
SRAM Guide rebuild kit
Wolf Tooth tyre lever/ding straightener
Can't wait til Easter.

Or don't start in the first place! I'm dreading starting work on decorating our house - 4 years in and yet to do change any decor except the kitchen.

My 'simple job that snowballed' was to book a hire car for our holiday a few years ago: Sydney to Brisbane, indirectly. Things crept from booking something normal to looking for something Aussie and more interesting than the typical mid-sized SUV. Instead, I ended up BUYING a Monaro V8 back here in the UK 🙂

This seems to be more common than I thought.

Got given a cooker - doesn't fit in the current gap
Half a kitchen (we'd been wanting to do it anyway) + sink + extractor unit
Kitchen that matches the existing half of the kitchen only available a 4hr drive away

last month trying to find the pair of socks i needed in the house has cost me getting on for a couple of grand already!

ferreting around on the back of the wardrobe trying to find them, i noticed it was feeling decidedly moist in there. as its a built in monstrosity of a wardrobe in the cold north east corner of the house, i thought i best cut out a section of the hardboard backing to see what going on in behind it.

mould, black mould. that's what was going on behind there. and plenty of it

cue ripping out wardrobe, litres of chemical treatment and cleaning, retro fitting trickle vents to all windows in the house, knocking out stone work to install an air brick, scaff tower hire, new SDS drill as old one's motor went pop when trying to drill an exploratory hole, new extractor system in kitchen and new fan for bathroom and humidity monitor's which have not turned into and obsession!

still got to buy a new wardrobe too

i only wanted my cold weather walking socks!

My son’s been riding his.....
He brings it back with him over Christmas

Eldest bought a bike from uni for £20. I offered to get it serviced if he brought it back at Christmas.

His £20 bike is now a £300 bike 🤷‍♂️

I went to a clearance sale at B&Q and bought a rain shower. The shower outlets on the wall were a bit high to allow the new shower to fit below the ceiling. My en suite is now a full wetroom.

Went to board up a previously bricked up window out the back of the garage. Turned into me pulling the old window and frame out (original 1850 window, glass and decrepit tilt mechanism which was all was basically swept out of the opening with a brush and into a bin bag such was the state of its rottenness) redoing the pointing on the brickwork, gap sealing around the edges, superfoiling the outer face as I’m not convinced there’s insulation between it and the garage’s plasterboard, building a new frame and then boarding over the top.
“I’m just popping around the back of the house for a bit” was Friday morning. Finished it today.

I have a suspicion this is going to be a recurring theme with this place.
