For those who don’t have formatting buttons (quote, link, picture, bold, etc.) available when posting, there’s good old BBCode markup. In the examples below replace the round brackets with square brackets when doing it for real...

(b)Bold text(/b) becomes [b]Bold text[/b]

(i)Italics(/i) becomes [i]Italics[/i]

(quote)Quoted Text(/quote)

Becomes:

Quoted Text

(img) (/img)

Becomes:

[img] [/img]

(url) https://www.flickr.com/photos/thinkingengine/27020018133/in/dateposted-public/(/url)

Becomes:

[url] https://www.flickr.com/photos/thinkingengine/27020018133/in/dateposted-public/ [/url]

I hope that all works!

The main one I haven't been able to work out yet is how to embed a video in a post. The previous (video)YouTube URL(/video) format wouldn't work for me. As I've seen videos embedded in the new forum it must be possible so if anyone knows the solution please post it here!

@Drac - youtu.be shortlinks don't work, has to be the full URL

Drac - presumably something in the forum code is identifying certain URLs as pointing to videos. I used a full YouTube URL (www.youtube.com/...) rather than a youtu.be URL so I'd guess that the forum identifies the former but not the latter.

Your attempt does suggest that the forum software will automatically hyperlink URLs though, so the (url)(/url) tags may not be necessary.

Test:
https://www.pinkbike.com/news/the-real-story-of-that-single-sided-carbon-fork.html

nickc - That's odd, as with my buttonless edit box I'm not getting HTML formatting data when I pasted in originally formatted text.

I think that I've been able to edit my posts since the new forum showed up. However I only have two buttons when posting - Preview (broken) and Submit.

The old forum use to work without the BB code too, initially you had to drop the S and couldn’t use mobile links. That got sorted but it was only ever for Vimeo and YouTube.

Let’s see if without S worked.

I always used BBCode.... however now the quote part is messing up and copy/paste pastes all the html... that I can't see until I Submit

I'm stuck on a old browser because my OS is so old.

The old forum once required BBCode, then it added formatting buttons that just dropped the BBCode into a post for you, so I learnt most of the tags I need back then. I'm reasonable at typing so I often find it's easier to insert BBCode tags myself than faff around with the mouse to press formatting buttons.

Is it pasting in with the effect of the HTML formatting visible? Do you have access to formatting buttons? I don't have any pasting issues but I don't have formatting buttons either.

So, the full Youtube URL works, but the "share" url (.be) doesn't.

Nested quotes don't work with the [ quote] tags - you have to use < blockquote> instead (which is what the Chrome extension I'm using automatically inserts, hence why the above kind of works - I CBA to fix quoting nested quotes). It seems the new buttons generate < blockquote> tags as that's what I'm mostly seeing.

I think the edit button is only broken on long threads (those where the paging starts becoming broken I think - though it may just be any multi-page thread?)

Sorry - I've fixed it - I was trying <> tags and it seems < li> ones break it - have deleted them.

< code> seems interesting though:

abcd
efgh

[ code]

[code]abcd
efgh[/code]

When the update first happened, I could edit posts (with those little edit avatar thingies), but now I can't - even on the first page of a thread. The edit link just goes to a generic /forum/reply/edit (which is 404).
How did you edit yours aracer?

I think the edit button is only broken on long threads

But the edit button just links to  http://singletrackmag.com/forum/reply/edit/

How could that possible work on any post/thread?

[img] [/img]

Jeez. I can assure you I don't

DezB, I am now unable to edit my new posts on this thread. I get the same reply/edit link as you, and a 404 error when I click on it. However I was able to edit my first post, earlier.

How do you do an url with the key words as well, e.g. the word 'linky' would be underlined and when you clicked on it you would go through the chosen url?

That used to be (url= http://singletrackmag.com/)stw(/url)

I'll try it below with square brackets:

[url= http://singletrackmag.com/ ]stw[/url]

For those that want to be able to edit posts (it’s a bit of a faff mind you):

1. Click in the bottom left of your post, where is says how old the post is.

2. The URL will then change in your address bar – take a note of the post number at the very end of the URL.

3. Then copy the following link and bob it into your address bar

http://singletrackmag.com/forum/reply/1234567/edit/

4. Replace 1234567 with your post number.

5. Hit enter.

6. Go make a brew.

7. Return to find your post ready to edit
