You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Just to offset some of the cynicism, that I am as guilty of as anyone else, here's a couple of things that have made me see the light in people recently.
Sat in A&E yesterday. There were a few other people waiting including an older lady who would cough badly then look around for sympathy. Every so often punctuating the silence with 'tuts' and 'under her breath moans'. As she looked around everyone furtively avoided her gaze. She tried to engage a couple of people in coversation but was shut down with one word answers and patronising vacant smiles. Then one of the other patients went over to her, and started talking. Asking her about what was wrong, could she get her a glass of water, would she like to read a magazine? It was done without any showboating for the other people, just good honest decency that the rest of us had forgotten about.
Secondly, on Monday when I got up I looked out of the first floor window and saw a blackbird flapping around in the road, one wing hanging uselessly down. I'm always the one to stop for an injured bird, rabbit and in one case a cat that thanked me for wrapping it up in a towel by scratching my forearm to shreds. So downstairs I ran and opened the front door, thinking I would already be too late and it would be run over. I saw that a black BMW had stopped and a man in a suit got out. He scooped up the bird, carefully tucking it's wing in, and got on the phone to the vets. Now you may say that the bird was as good as dead already, and maybe it was or maybe it wasn't but just seeing the compassion from someone I wouldn't have expected (yes - my prejudices) just gave me a lift.
Let's hear yours.
Euthanasia.
I have to admit, almost in contradiction to SaxonRiders thread (we live fairly close to on another) the amount of people who smile, and nice things about my daughter as she zips around on her Balance Bike generally leaving chaos and mayhem in her wake.
Most people drive as if letting someone get head of them will cause their immediate death, but will still call a truce to let an Ambo through. I've often wondered if people would block an ambulance so not to risk their place in the queue for the light if the downfall of society would be sure to follow.
I'm always surprised that such a high proportion of people will buy a few extra tins, packets of stuff if the local Food Bank is in the Supermarket asking for help. Same goes for boxes they leave behind the tills, and the ones for pet food and stuff.
The neighbours and complete random strangers who offered to take my Wife to work in the snow in their 4x4s.
I can't remember the last time I was passed by another rider who didn't ask if I was okay when I was working on my bike trail side.
Admit it what really impressed (and surprised)Â you was the BMW driver.
